Re: History of AudioGames.net, from the first posts from each room

@39Being knowledgeable doesn't equate to being reliable.  What matters from the perspective of whether or not to adopt my software is reliability: will I be maintaining it tomorrow?  I dropped camlorn_audio because camlorn_audio was my newbie project and a train wreck.  I dropped Libaudioverse because it's the kind of thing that is way bigger than what Synthizer wants to be, I made some other mistakes, and finishing it in parallel with a dayjob is infeasible.But.  This is the key point.  I did drop them.  Now obviously there were good reasons and it's OSS and I had no obligation to continue writing anything.  But I can now expect less adopters.  By how much?  Who knows.  "He's got a history of dropping libs, maybe I shouldn't use this one" is a fine thing to say.  Both of those projects had a long enough lifetime that it's not like I'm super flaky or anything--Libaudioverse was literally years of maintenance/updates and camlorn_audio was almost 10 years ago now--so it probably doesn't hurt me too much. But I don't get a pass for it exactly and it doesn't matter how knowledgeable I am, anyone doing software at a high enough level doesn't care if I'm a genius or an idiot, they care if using my stuff is going to screw them over somehow.

@35Abandoned games is fine by me.  Like, unless someone is paying for it on a subscription basis then the devs are allowed to walk away.  That's just called life.  So if I misread and that's specifically what you meant, yeah.  But admittedly if you keep walking away from your projects people will eventually lose interest.  I'm sure that me haviong walked away from libaudioverse and camlorn_audio has people wondering what'll happen to synthizer, even though there was very good reason involved each time that wasn't just stfu. But for everything else, piracy, things like that--yeah, this place is way too forgiving.

@25Yeah you're right. Pulling this kind of thing in the rest of anywhere wouldn't work. However, because things have evolved the way they have, things just are the way they are. We've got a decent amount of one-person-dev-teams around here and the lack of money is a problem for sure.It is up to the dev though, to run the site and whatever else is necessary, and in some cases with some games things just didn't work out.In some areas we need to change but in others maybe we don't. Now that I'm looking back over that last post in this topic from me it wasn't completely thought out.

Re: History of AudioGames.net, from the first posts from each room

If you want to program stuff and put out games and run a web site, you either have the maturity to maintain your reputation and not do stupid things, or you don't.  If you don't, it's not the problem of the communities you're a part of.  Putting out games and running a web site etc. is asking to be treated like someone smart enough to do all that, which means that you're being treated like someone smart enough to think through consequences. If the people here pulled the shit they pull here on Twitter or Facebook, then it would be clear to the people here that really this community is very forgiving.  I promise other places make this place look like your incredibly loving parents who will support you in whatever you do, in terms of letting people get away with stuff then forgiving and forgetting it.Saying that audiogames.net needs to be more forgiving is a sign of naivety in my opinion.

Yes, I've noticed the same thing with the lines in old posts. Quite odd.I've enjoyed my time here so far. Hope to stick around and exist around here for a long time in the future.I do agree that devs who make a mistake, or many mistakes in the past, aren't given chances in the future. It's kind of sad how that works. When someone gets a reputation it tends to stick around. But if it didn't, we'd be so trusting and people would just lie to us about everything and we would just believe it.Edit:Removed a stupid joke I didn't like.

Re: History of AudioGames.net, from the first posts from each room

Yes, I've noticed the same thing with the lines in old posts. Quite odd.I've enjoyed my time here so far. Hope to stick around and exist around here for a long time in the future.I do agree that devs who make a mistake, or many mistakes in the past, aren't given chances in the future. It's kind of sad how that works. When someone gets a reputation it tends to stick around. But if it didn't, we'd be so trusting and people would just lie to us about everything and we would just believe it.You have to find a happy medium... And no, not that type of medium.

Kinda off topic but if you check the first posts in the forum you will see that people writelike this. Is therea reason for doingthat?Do older screenreaders or browsers put a limit on how many characters on eachline? I’m just wonderingthat

Re: History of AudioGames.net, from the first posts from each room

Hi,I really enjoy the forum, although in my early (and immature) days of posting I sometimes was slightly involved in drama topics, but I fortunately haven't gotten a warning yet.Although there has been quite some negativity here recently, I still enjoy the forum. I not only enjoy the many discussions about games, but also the wide variety of topics discussed in the Off-Topic Room. From computer tips to technical support to even discussions about space missions (check out Magurp for that), there's something for everyone there. All in all, I think the forum is great for keeping up with game releases, discussing games and discussing all sorts of other stuff. But now, to the negative points:I don't like that developers who made some mistakes in the past aren't really given a second chance on here. And I know I'm sometimes part of this, but sometimes I just can't hold it back. And about user karma: I always like to divide the number of a person's posts through their user karma to maybe see how useful/entertaining/whatever their posts are. I am not super focused on user karma, but I still appreciate that shiny little plus sign with a number below my posts. So, according to my profile, I registered here in 2017, but I started posting some time later.

It's always been my view that we need more positivity on this forum, and in the world in general, and nostalgia can be a good catalyst for positivity (and negativity in some cases).

Re: History of AudioGames.net, from the first posts from each room

I am going to give My feedback regarding this forum. Here goes.Well, as a forumite, I am enjoying my stay here. Since I have the tendency to avoid all the drama topics, I feel that I am enjoying. It's cool that we have discussion about a lot of different type of games. Hmm, and there's User Karma. I don't take that very seriously, but in my mind, there's a thought somewhere, that I appreciate those people who gave me these many thumbs ups. Also, I feel, that's good that I haven't got a single warning here, *grin*. Though I understand there are a lot of us who didn't got a single warning.I registered in November 2019 as you can see, I posted somethings for a while, December I think. Then I vanished from here for 6 months.Presently, I am just typing 1/2/3 posts per day.Now coming to the negative point, after all, there is nothing without its prose and cons, .I don't like the way people are attacking developers, they should be given some chances to reflect on their mistakes. One example, yesterday a guy posted something in Manamon 1 thread. It was very disappointing. Also, I sent a PM to Jayde 5 or 6 days before, it was a request to respond a little faster on name changing requests. Haven't got any reply, +the status appears as read.Rest all is well. I also like to browse things like you did @zenothrax. In fact I do it in a month, . I also spend some of my time in reading old posts of the forum, to know the community better.Let's see, what the future will be.Edit: I also did not liked a way like the way our former moderator, Lukas was attacked. He just asked for donations, and people could simply refuse it. By reading the old posts of the forum, I understand that they have contributed many things here.Anybody could be scammed. Maybe that was his first mistake, and he learnt something from it?
