Re: I've chosen my distribution!

I have a Lenovo t-430. I doubt things like VMware or Virtual Box are going to work on something as old as my computer is. So, if I want to test out Linux,  looks like I'll have to go the temporary,  reconfigure all of the settings  every time I want to run Linux, way of running it on a flash drive.Better than Duel booting, which caused me some problem that I've likely  fixed.

Re: I've chosen my distribution!

And thats why, my fellow citisens, i reinstall my OS atleast 30 times a year lol.Its just that i'm distro hopping alot and some times using windows, like now. My pc sadly isn't a modern one so its a no go with vm's, allthough i've installed win10 in vmware workstation when i wanted it i believe in manjaro. My computer was exploding but it survived, somehow.I really should install manjaro on my pc since i'll have to recreate my manjaro talking images soon probably.

Re: I've chosen my distribution!

You can always run Win10 in Virtualbox on Mint however, so there's that.

It's interesting.  I've done it before with Ubuntu with pretty much very good success.   I just didn't like Ubuntu.

Re: I've chosen my distribution!

Yeah that's why you don't dual boot lol. Not at least until you know linux better. Oh well, I did a similar thing trying to partition one drive and wiped out three.

Re: I've chosen my distribution!

I totally  wiped out Windows,  it would seem.  Good thing I had nothing either really important  or  something that was not already  saved elsewhere.Re-installing  Windows, and making partitions for Linux Mint.Quite the newbie mistake for me, but you live and learn.

Re: I've chosen my distribution!

SO there's a boot menu now, except there's a timeout that defaults it to linux. You need to be there when it shows up and arrow down to windows. By default, the timeout is kind of short though. You can actually have it default to windows if you press nothing. Usually windows is two down, because you have the first option being linux, the second being linux on your fallback kernel, and the third being windows. So two down, but this isn't always the case.

Re: I've chosen my distribution!

I may have made the most interesting mistake in my life of computing. I duel booted it correctly, the Windows files are still there, but I don't know how to boot back to Windows if I want to. Apparently it's supposed to be easy as you're supposed to just be able to boot when you start up, but I try to do this and it just goes back to Linux. (Linux  was set by default, which is very interesting.)  I don't know what I should do if I want to boot back to Windows, because as much as I love this distribution, all of my stuff is on Windows currently, and I want to do things like play Clok without having to use Wine if it even works with the mush client. Any suggestions?

Re: I've chosen my distribution!

You need to instal the prerequisites from that link, then do scons sudo scons install and then sudo ldconfig then it should show up in Orca. They recently patched it to auto detect speech-dispatcher .90.As for the network. Two options.1. Open a terminal, type nmtui and go from there2. Navigate to the tray and go from there. I forget how on the Mate desktop

Re: I've chosen my distribution!

I found steps for installing RH Voice over at https://launchpad.net/~linvinus/+archiv … u/rhvoice/, however no idea in how to get it connected with Orca. The only distros that come with it out of the box as ya ma have found out, are Slint and Jinux. I wish all distros of Linux would replace ESpeak with RH Voice. It's not a highly requested idea, but more people would enjoy Linux if this change was made.

I've chosen my distribution!

2020-10-15 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : vablus via Audiogames-reflector

I've chosen my distribution!

Dear Linux users,After running many experimental distributions of Linux, (each of which I've run on a usb drive), I have chosen a distribution with which I am satisfied. The distribution is...Linux Mint Mate!  Indeed, I have found that Linux Mint has been the least frustrating distribution to use, and that's including the fact that I tested out Genux, which isn't bad, but it's a pain in the ass to set up properly. Linux Mint has given me no trouble, and my edition has the Mate desktop which I find most accessible at the moment.Problem is, I have to figure out how to connect to the internet. Unlike other distributions that automatically pick up the Wifi stuff built-in to my computer, Linux Mint does not and so I mustmanually configure the wifi in order to connect. How do I do this? Hopefully someone will be able to explain it to me in a way I can actually understand, I'm no programmer and won't get all of the command line commands off the bat. Also, I am going to attempt to install the same voice used in Genux to this distribution, as I prefer it. Don't know how it's going to get done, but I do want to make it happen because Orka's voice currently sucks. So, there it is!  Glad I found a distribution which I can use easily and effectively, and once I get all of the kinks out, I will consider duel booting it eventually so I don't have to connect a USB to my computer just to run Linux. Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions.
