Re: I never thought I'd see the day when...

Hi,I’m 41, so I really am an old man hahaha. but I still remember my first computer which was a spectrum 128k, games came on an audio cassette which took around 5 mins to load and there was no saving your game progress, so you had to complete a game in one sitting or leave your spectrum on with the game paused whilst you went to school so you could come back and pick up the game again from where you left off once you got back from school, although the power transformer would be so hot you could have probably cooked eggs on the thing 37. smart assistants, like Seri on the iPhone or Alexa on a smart speaker. (its funny how we treat these as just common place these days, but this was ground breaking on the iPhone 4s, which was only about ten years or so ago now)38. virtual reality systems on home consoles39. VR gloves  which actually allow  you to feel virtual textures and hold virtual objects, like the new upcoming Teslasuit gloves. I honestly thought I’d only ever see tech like this in TV shows/films like star trek hahahaPaul Lemm

You guys have some good ones!33. I am still relatively young and I was able to grow up, knowing that the Internet existed, but I sure didn't know how to use it until I was around 17. But generally speaking, I never thought to see the day when I would be able to browse the Internet and say I have a good paying job because of it. And on the same note, about the internet thing, I mean, seriously! The Internet is such an accomplishment that humanity should take some time to celebrate. So many things had to go right to get to this point. Same with computers and modern phones!34. I don't really want to argue about our current situation in the United States, but I certainly never thought we would reach this point. I mean, it's almost as if history is repeating itself.35. I never thought I would see the day when I, in my personal life, would be so happy. I have a fiance, I'm at a good job, and my skills are in great demand that I don't see myself struggling to find employment any time soon if any misfortunes should come my way.

Yeah,I first heard about internet when I was in 5th standard, but, it could have been earlier than that. Things weren't that clear back then, correct information was difficult to get. And Computers weren't that affordable and widespread in every household. There was even talk among classmates that How computers can be used with audio, but, there was also the talk that the audio thing didn't work with everything, so, we sort of brushed it aside thinking it was only for tech savvy people. Lol! now I am the most tech savvy guy among my friends.I only started using internet back in 2013, and Computer in 2011, so, I am fairly new compared to others on this forum. The first Smartphone in my house was a Samsung midranger, Grand Quattro, and it took me a while to figgure out that a cheep router can be used to share my computer's internet connection with other devices. So, I never thought that I would see the day when I would be using computers and smartphones even without site.

@NevEd yes, and absolutely to both questions in 8.  the syncing clients you take for granted now weren't around back then, and the mainstream consumer only had access to dialup back in the late 90's and early 2k's.  Transfering a 3 minute audio file through email was so slow you could walk away from your PC and make yourself a cup of coffee and not miss a thing.  Im was absolutely fun, and chatrooms were pretty cool.  Most everyone wanted to know your ASL (Age, sex and location,) to see if they had at least one of those three things in common with you before more personal engagements were made.  Nowadays you can get all of that information before you even begin to talk to a person provided they're not hiding it on purpose.

@NevEd, oh there's a huge difference. There wern't so many flashy sights back then, and reddit wasn't a thing neither was social media websites like facebook, Bebo was a thing in the UK along with another site I can't remember the nmae of.I'd say the internet was a lot less full of angry people back then, or if it was; it wasn't so mainstream.

I'm sorry, but the other day I was watching an old cartoon made in 2002 and they were in a science class. The teacher asked, "What's the 9TH planet?" Then a girl jumped up and said there's no ninth planet, and everybody started laughing. Of course today that joke is both funny, and sad, and I wish the channel I watched it on would havve at least said something about it no longer being a planett.25. Re: I never thought I'd see the day when...

Nice one, @Brad and post 4!  The rest of ya, get off my lawn for I get the shotgun!Seriously, sometimes I think it's all this tech that makes me feel so friggin old, like I've lived far too long and... I dunno, seen far too much.  I'm only 32... I promise.  People still say I look like I'm about 17 or 18 so I haven't aged far too badly, but I can't help looking back at time like @NevEd said.  It's 2020 and you'd be surprised how much stuff has changed in just the past 10 years!  Ten years ago people hardly considered NVDA a viable alternative to JFW!  Today, if the webaim surveys are to be believed, NVDA is  slowly edging JFW out of the market and FS the sparrow despairo whatever they call themselves nowadays is trying to reel JFW users in by practically giving them home licenses, at least here in the states, and hoping they'll bite and want to buy something bigger and better!15.  You'd answer a phone already knowing who was calling you.16.  You'd be able to block unwanted calls.17.  Floppies and floppy drives would become a thing of the past.18.  Ditto audio CD's and portable CD players, mostly.19.  You would wear a watch that could accurately monitor many things about your health.20.  Pluto would no longer be classified a planet.
