You can't, that setting just controls whether iOS will charge the phone past 80 percent right away, or try to detect when you typically use your phone and finish charging then to preserve more battery health.That being said, either you get updates for 5 years, which slow down eventually, 5 years is a long period for technology especially in 2020, or you switch to the other side, get updates for 3 years at most if you buy a flagship, and unless it's a Google device, get them months after they are released. It was just enough to be annoying.I used the trick of adding a second language in the rotor using the same voice, and it works perfect for me now. Voiceover has a setting to disable the detection, so I tried this, and the lag is still there. Actually, even if you ubgrade, I highly doubt you will be very affected by this. The lag is very minimal, probably not even a second before VO starts reading, as I said it's just something you notice is there. Obviously if you have a secondary device it's ideal to try the ubgrade on that one first, but personally I keep the default voice and it doesn't bother me at all since I also need language detection to work for Serbian cyrillic. Probably Nidza's suggestion would work, I remember when Apple first brought automatic language detection to mac, which was actually very late, it had the exact same problem. it would lag a lot and even stop speaking at all, specially with the Vocalizer voices. Alex did slightly better but it was never efficient still. the funny fact is, I bought Acapella voices on my mac before they introduce the automatic language detection feature and it always worked perfectly fine without any lags. So not sure what is Apple doing here. With that said, I personally cannot update if that is the case because I frequently use the automatic language detection feature, even with none-Latin languages, so switching to an English secondary voice wouldn't read them at all, it wouldn't be just reading them in English. This is quite stupid, they keep changing in some things that work perfectly fine for no apparent reason. I am speaking about the pronunciation as well, at some point it was saying "yestertay" with a t, in case it wasn't clear, and also now claire instead of clear etc etc. Also similar changes in other languages as well. So yeah Apple is apparently on the wrong track. Remember when apple released a version of IOS to remove throttling introduced in 10.3.3? And they were saying it only was for devices with battery life under 85%? Well my battery was at 97%, and after installing that update that removed the throttling, my device's performance improved enormously. Re: IOS14 is out? No. There is definitely lag, but it is not extreme at all. It's just something you notice is there unlike 13. However, there is a very simple workaround. If you go to Voiceover's settings, and add your prefered voice as a secondary language in the rotor, then use that instead of the default voice, you will have no lag.
