I don't see any way to reach a consensus, so while it might be disappointing to see things that come out or that are being talked about that don't have anything to do with the particular thing you're after, still, they're working on accessibility stuff, which is good. Also, keep in mind blindness isn't the only disability that the word accessibility applies to. We'll get our stuff at some point. I don't see it being that useful in games, unless when you touch the cells the game pauses somehow to let you read, then get back to the game. Re: Microsoft Patent For A Braille-Displaying Xbox Controller I seem to have misinterpreted the article abit, checking more closely in the patent description it seems the device has a 3 by 3 grid of braille cells on the bottom in the center with 6 dots per cell, the buttons underneath are apparently for inputting braille during the game, such as sending messages to other players. It sounds like it'd be for the purpose of reading menus in game, and not much else - put maybe if they decided to go further with it, they could have it read dialogue boxes but a six cell display wouldn't really be feasible for that. Maybe they'd add speech output to the display for that? All just theorizing, but very interesting nevertheless! Microsoft Patent For A Braille-Displaying Xbox Controller As reported by [arstechnica]:Microsoft it seems has patented a new type of braille controller accessory back in 2017. Dubbed a "braille chording accessory" for game controllers, it appears to be a device that would attach to the back of a standard Xbox controller, with 6 small paddles on the bottom part of the controller with 3 on the left and 3 on the right, positioned where the index, middle, and ring fingers on each hand would be. Its suggested that the touch force and position of these 6 paddles would work to translate a braille character to the user. There's no mention anywhere of whether Microsoft has any plans of making a product out of this, but given the Xbox Adaptive Controller released last year, it could be an interesting development.
