I prefer an ap I can install. Yes, it's true that web apps are more practical, but they feel fake to me.

Re: Mobile versus web apps, What do you all prefer

Personally, I'm a web app kind of person. I don't just hate using my phone for typing, I hate using it for anything except phoning people, and using maps when I'm out. Also, Flutter lets you build your apps for iOS, Android, and the Web. Windows, Mac, and Linux soon too.

not wanting to be rood or anything, but what if you just try and see?I mean, do you know both something like xamarin.forms or react native or even the native sdk's and the browser API well enough to think about creating apps in both?I, for example, know I couldn't code a web app to save my life, so I don't even consider it.However, if you think you know both well enough, just try and see what will the forumites think about each version.I know it will take a bit more time, but hey, at least you can say you tryed both approaches and then come here and say which of them you liked the most.

Re: Mobile versus web apps, What do you all prefer

I wish you luck in making cross-browser apps.  If you *need* _javascript_, React Native all the way.  I like native apps, personally.  No matter if it's web-based (e.g. in Electron / React).  I hate having to open my browser to use an app; this is the reason I really want to make Trimps into an installable app.  And, regarding notifying in browsers: as far as I know those APIs only work on desktop (e.g. Chrome prompts you if a web page can send notifications on desktop only).

I 'mean there are APIs for notifications and stuff on browsers. The reason I considered the web as a viable option is because of the new APIs being introduced that are  slowly giving the web a competitive lead in the app market

Re: Mobile versus web apps, What do you all prefer

It would depend on what the app is going to be used for. Generally, if there's a lot of typing, I will prefer to use the computer. This is why I use the web version of AI dungeon over the mobile app. But if there's not a bunch of typing, aside from initial sign up / in, I'm good with a mobile app.

Re: Mobile versus web apps, What do you all prefer

You can develop apps in _javascript_ that make use of device notifications and other device features. On Windows though they'll need to be packaged with Electron, and I'm not sure about iOS and Android. Things like Skype do it though.

Re: Mobile versus web apps, What do you all prefer

Well it deppends on which app you are making. For some thing simple, i would like a web appHow ever, if the app is a bit more advanced, it would be best if it makes use of the device's native modules.Like for example if your app shows notifications, it would be best to use the native app it's self, not the web app.If it is just pritty basic, nah then i think a web app would work better.Just my opinion.

Re: Mobile versus web apps, What do you all prefer

For me it doesn't matter which way to use things. Although as I tried to create web app and a regular native app as well, I can say that people usually prefer native app. I understand that if you make a web app you make it cross platform, however sometimes native is just better, due to services, staurage, permissions and other stuff. It depends on the app as well, I mean what it should do, but native fits all so perhaps that's easier.

Mobile versus web apps, What do you all prefer

as some of you know I want to get into app development but I have various options. One option is making a mobile app which I could publish to the various appstores. Another option is what's called a PWA or progressive web app, which is like a normal app but in website form and a few limitations. But i wanted to ask you guys who may or may not be using said applications. What format do you guys like more? an app you could install or a website you could vissit which feels like a normal app which could also be installed via way of the "add to hhome screen" or "bookmark" options in your browsers
