Re: Monthly chat January 2016

[[wow]] Lauren, that's the first I've heard of Alan Rickman, very sad indeed. Actually my lady and I were  commenting how sad it was that so many tallented people David Bowie, Terry Pratchett, Christopher Lee and now Alan Ricman all seem to have died, it seems we're losing a lot of very unique people. Well this January has been an odd month for me too, and one reason which you might guess why I've not been around the forum as much. my lady (after some shenanigans in Frankfert),is finally hear. We're looking at the legal side of things to see how easy it will be for her to stay in this country and get married, but obviously she's had a lot of jet lag and we've been doing lots of things together.  Things pretty  much are still as magical as they were when we were together in the states, though we do need to get various matters sorted, in particular I've got my lady an Iphone (and a phone account), which needs tsett
ing up along with a new e-mail address, so that will be a job for this week, although right now what we're mostly doing is just being together and being very much in love (plus going to a rather amusing play and a fun concert with my parents). So,  all the nasty circumstances not withstanding this is looking at being an amazing year for me, heck hopefully, assuming all the legal hassles work out, I should be married by August, which is a thought that is terrifying, and also wonderful.

Re: Monthly chat January 2016

Seing as this topic doesn't seem to be very busy right now, I thought I'd post my own reply. So far, January's been a rather "interesting" month. I wouldn't say it's been the best ever, as whilst it's gone okay so far for me, there's been a lot going on in the world that hasn't made a good start to the New Year.Last week was a prime example of this; first David Bowie died, then Alan Rickman. Though I am sad about both, I feld worse about the latter as I've always thought Alan Rickman to be a great actor and known him to play roles in many things besides Snape in the Harry Potter series, all of which were (in my opinion) rather well played. In my own life though, I've had a rather boring start to the new year. So far, all I've really done is go back to college for one of the last times (I finish in June), do my mock exams, reply to a few university offers and get a horrible headcold.

Re: Monthly chat January 2016

@Hhurstseth, my lady's sister did indeed make a recording of the wolves, I've stuck it on sendspace Here, it's not the best quality as it was taken on her phone and my lady's sister isn't an audio expert, but it should give everyone an idea of how awesome being amid fourty wolves howling was.Well today has passed very slowly sinse my lady is flying in tomorrow and that will be the start of our actual life together. I did listen to the big finish treasure island with none other than Tom Baker as Long Jon Silver, which was awesome! One thing I'd forgotten (sinse it's probably about 25 years sinse I first read the book as I did so at the age of 8 or 9), was that there is a blind villain in there! It's sort of amazing to have a rather cool blind pirate who even threatens to break people's arms, though I was glad in the audio drama they changed his death to make him more menacin
 g. In the book all the pirates leave him after ransacking the main character's inn, and he's stuck begging for them to come back before getting ridden down by the pursuing possie with the revenue. In the audio drama the pirates all leg it in fear but Pew is certain he knows where the main character, young Jim Hawkins is so lunges across the road towards him not giving up and is then ridden down by accident by the   revenue.Well if your going to have a blind villainous pirate, better for him to be an effective and bad to the bone blind villainous pirate than be really pathetic . Tom Baker of course rocked! they even had a rather catchy tune for "fifteen men on a dead man's chest" which was nice. AMusingly enough, all our modern pirate cliches, shiver me timbers, peg legs, parrots saying peaces of eight etc generally come from Treas
ure island so it was cool to hear a great audio version and Big finish were good as always. One thing I found interesting is they really didn't change the morality of the book either. The pirates were bad treacherous pirates, because they didn't look up to the "gentlemen born" as it was put, indeed the captain who complained about someone being "too soft on the men" and was vindicated was exactly as he was in the book, so Stevenson wasn't adulterated for a modern audience. I was amused though at the ending, sinse where as in the book Long John Silver just vanishes, in the audio play there's a little epilogue of him on another pirate ship going back for more of the buried treasure which was cool! . Other than treasure island I've been trying to destract myself with different things, failing at six dragons, trying to
write another book review, and generally hanging on tentahooks. Of course, everything will be fine once we're together, it always is.

Re: Monthly chat January 2016

@Wanderer, fair enough on the skeeing. I confess I much preferd cross country after trying both, far less commercial and crowded and more about getting out into the mountains, but hay whatever floats your skees . Let me know how you find it. I've heard the term "French press" for a cafeteir before, but to me that always sounds like a wrestling hold . As for me, yesterday I went to see the new starwars film after missing the premier. It would've been nice to see the premier, but never mind, and in fairness christmas was pretty momentous anyway. As for my thoughts on the film you can find them hin the last post on this topic sinse I had a lot to say (I'm surprise
d there's not been more starwars discussion on the forum). I also saw my brother for a great meal at a new bbq place. We had a rather bizarre sandwich (or rather a tiny bun full of loads of meet that was impossible to eat with anything but a knife and fork), called amusingly "the pit master!" which to me always sounds like the bad guy from a martial arts film rather than a cook. It had pulled pork, chease and jalapino sausages, and some great beef as well as onions and fried pickles. We also had with it some corn bread which is not seen over here and was nice, and a truly amazing desert involving burbon and cream soda sponge with bbq'd marshmellows and popping candy. It was a very American type of place which is odd having just come back from there, but was a good meal, albeit the brazillian barbeque place we usually go to is probably better especially for the price. Other than that I've been marking time somewhat until my lady arri
ves, even with six dragons and other games, this week is crawling, though on the plus side I am slaughtering the computer on blindfold hearts, I am on 29 penalty points while everyone else is 150 or higher. I think I'll have to set the skill limit of the other players up and the points to win a game down.
