Re: Music stiles from around the world.

I don’t like most of the modern music today. There are a few  Exceptions. For example, there are a lot of minorities in some countries that are taking modern music and combining it with their own cultural influences,  I found that often this music is talking about problems they as a  Minority  face  in some of these countries. That stuff seems to have power, where most of the other modern music does not.

I like persian music, and then the classic music which can be found anywhere. I prefer real instruments over synths and electronic stuff that now became too popular. Persian music however, I think is something else. Never have seen any zhanras close to persian music(not these new ones. I mean the older persian songs although some of these new ones are still good). I have an albom of persian rock/jazzy songs which are great. It looks like that the group who performed these songs performed the instruments themselves like drums, brasses and other stuff like that, there are also three english songs of course performed by the same group in that albom. You can find that group around if you search "khal punk" in google. It should bring up the albom I'm talking about but you might have dificulites downloading the albom

Re: Music stiles from around the world.

music from the Colombian Andes does not get much love or recognition these days, but here is a very traditional, masterful one, which always makes me think of the colder chilly days (we got no seasons) and the mountains.. the farm life in here. This is called a bambuco. It contains an accompanyment  guitar, a mandolin (which takes the melody most of the time) and also a tiple which is the instrument you hear to your left which has a more metallic, brighter sound.this pasillo is one of the most inspiring, respectful (in the sense of tradition), imaginative and provocative adaptations for solo piano that i have ever heard done with this music. And to get your appetite flowing, an American jazz guitarist took the tiple in his own hands to make his take on it.We certainly do have some jazz fusion from the greats living abroad with some music from the Atlantic coasts, and also the same for music from our pacific coastsI hope this was diverse enough, Colombia has a very vast musical palette that cataloguing everything is too much of an almost impossible undertaking.. this is also due to its rather interesting geography which used to greatly distance regions but that changed a long time ago thanks to the available transportation technology.

It's overused all over, but gosh, it's worst in africa.  I'm not trying to be mean here. On the other hand, I love african music stiles, from all over the continent. The kora music from mali, whisper singing from Burundi, talking drums, mbira music from zimbabwe, there is so much variation. That's what I like about african musics. Re: Music stiles from around the world.

The thing is Thai Khlui doesn't have detachable mouthpiece. The blowing hole is fixed at the very edge of the long pipe that's the body of the flute. The playstyle is similar to recorder. As long as you blow into the right hole, it makes sounds. The amount of air you blow in results in the outcome of the sound, soft and comforting, loud and pressing, fingering a tad less complicated than recorder. Because of how easy it is to play this kind of flute, I regret having not learnt different blowing techniques for different kinds of fluteAssault_freak, that music of yours is awesome. I had no  concepts of a flute without a  regular  kind of mouth piece like those found on recorders. I’m not a flutist,  but I was able to get a sound out of it in less than a day. Some people have said that it could take months.  There are videos about it on YouTube. It’s a beautiful instrument.

I got a quena flute from the andes for christmas this year.  Learning to play it has been a very interesting experience, because it does not have a conventional mouthpiece. You have to blow into it at a certain angle. And you can play a second, higher octave of notes by using a different blowing technique.  Are there any places I can go to find music from across the world, like websites or channels that I can download or pay for and archive?

Re: Music stiles from around the world.

That's what I've been doing. A  Channel on youtube  called traditional music channel  that  uploads  world music is  deleting all  of his content little by little, probably because of coppy right stuff. I'm trying to arkive all of it before it  disappears. The crazy thing is that no  artists are credited in the videos, otherwise I would just track the songs down myself,  part of the reason I’m archiving it to begin with, so I can track them down afterwards.  As it is though, over 100 videos and content have probably been lost, and the least I can do is get the rest incase any thing else goes.As for favorites, yes, it's hard to say. No music is better than another, but I guess in the end I feel most at home with music from my   Heritage, latin american and  indigenous American.  But in the end maybe my favorites reflect on what I’m feeling at the moment. So maybe I listen to some  singing bowls if I'm feeling one way, or music from the andes which is some of my favorite stuff if I'm feeling another way.

I have anything from Ethnic songs from southeast, east and south Asia, a lot of native american songs, Andean, Latin/hispanic style, Middle east, Celtic, African and Australian ethnic, etc etc etc. This isn't even half of what I have.I listen to any type of music really, and prefer anything but loud stuff, loud rock, metal, techno, electronic beats and stuff. Though I do have some of those genres in my collection, melodic/lyrical stuff, especially folk are what I prefer. As to what kind of world music I like...this one is really hard to answer. Everything has a life of its own, and nothing is more beautiful than one another. If I'm to choose, I may choose Celtic, but then again, nothing iis precise. I love anything, everything.
