Your goto solutions are WordPress and, surprisingly enough, Drupal, which is much faster in regards to loading speed and can do more than just blog-like websites like WordPress, but the learning curve is more intense.Doing security correctly without any knowledge in web development is also really, really hard as soon as you start doing more than just HTML, CSS and JS. Re: My new website, any suggestions? Hello, Thank you guys for all your suggestions. I would agree with Post 5 in the fact that the current content is quite random. The main reason I created this server is to host the autobuild scripts and the access stick files. As for setup, I am literally running this server off of an HP Probook 4540s in my bedroom, connected over wireless with about 1.1m upload, running Arch Linux. The reason that I am not hosting these files on any third-party servers are that 1: I need instant access to update the files should dependencies change, and 2: that I would rather host my content and secure it with my own security, such as login counters, automatic incremental backups, and OTP for access to the system, rather than rely on a vendor's claimed security. The only reason that I use ddns is that rebuilding the isos every time my IP changes is quite a pain, not to mention implementing some type of update checking for the autobuild and access stick installer scripts, which would require a constantly up server anyway. I used to host most of the content currently provided on my self-hosted http server on a cloud storage service, hardcoding the public links in the scripts at build time, but that got all screwed up when I went to build a system and found out that the service had removed my public links, and when I manually downloaded the files using the installation environment, from their server, they were a month old. In terms of purchasing a domain name, in relation to the house analogy, isn't that, in a way, what I am doing in this case? Although I have to use webvisum every 30 days to renew the domain name through ddns, and update it on my end should my external IP change, my family switches ISPS or something similar, are there any other issues that I should be aware of? @Post2: The way I am placing files on my server is like this: su -c "cp file /srv/http ; chown -R http:http /srv/http". If you are looking for an ftp client, check out filezilla, wh ich can be found on sourceforge(make sure you either download the zip file or read the installer carefully as it does try to get you to install crapware!). If you are on linux, the mate and gnome file managers(nautilus and caja, respectively), have built-in support for ftp and sftp through the gvfs userspace utilities, allowing you to, for example, save a document file from a bootable USB right to your home system if you set ssh up correctly. Me not checking out your stuff as of yet, I would have to agree with post 3. Get your own domain name. you can get them cheep at namecheep.com for just 10 to 11 bucks a year and that's not much. I have 2 domains that I'm hosting off of my VPS which has about 70 gigs of disk space on it and that is running a bunch of stuff. Including 2 automation systems for our radio station's network, a couple of game server such as RTR mail servers and a lot more. My thing is, figure out what you need and go off of that. HTH. Its understandable, but annoying for you, the site owner. Don't renew that ddns masking the IP your site is on? Boom there goes the site.2. Data limits?I have absolutely no idea on this, but it sort of makes sense that a man in the middle server, which ddns sort of is, wouldn't allow you to send thousands and thousands of megs of data per day.So, as for the data thing, put your big files somewhere you know they are easy to get a hold of, have understandable and decent data limits, and don't expire almost immediately.Lastly,3. Do your best at purchasing your very own domain name or website.Seriously. It's rewarding as all fuck. Ima gine your 24 and you've just bought yourself your own house, that's mostly all yours. You make your own rules, you invite your own guests, and you do what you want because its your home.That, translates almost perfectly to this example here.It is your website. You host your own content no forced adds or popups or any other annoyances.With this though, you still need to find some sort of good file hosting services, because ahem, most web hosting providers don't provide you with actual unlimited data (storage), or even at least unlimited data streams (downloads).For example, with a small orange, I only get about I think its 512 mb or 1 gb actual storage.
