Eg, the point is basically more than people just jumping into bed with each other. I've not personally seen Suzuka, though have heard of it, but the trope of girl best friend who likes the male main character (especially girl who tends a shrine), while the main character is enfatuated with someone with whom he has a tempestuous relationship is quite a common one in anime, my neighbor totoro, chobits, and even to an extent mahoromatic and elfen leid all have this trope, though elfen Leid is anything but a comedy (it's actually bloody dark and extremely harsh, albeit it has a few fun moments).
