I had a similar experience where I got a tablet for my birthday, and talkback would talk, but explore by touch wasn't working, and without that, the thing is nearly useless, in order to type, I'd have to tap a key on the keyboard, with my partial sight I was able to guess where a key was, but couldn't read the character printed on. If it wasn't right, I'd have to swipe left and right until I got to the correct key, then double tap. That was super annoying. I didn't know anything about android then, in fact, that was my first tablet. I tried to root it and get a ROM for it but I didn't have a damn clue what I was doing and it didn't work out. Finally, I just had to tell them sorry, but I can't use it, and I gave it to my sighted brother. I then got a nexus 7 which I proceeded to root and mess around with different ROMs and stuff.Moral of the story is this, get a google tablet, like nex us or something, or, do your research and find out which tablets are easiest to root, then you can load the stock google android ROM and talkback will work guaranteed.
