Okay. From looking, I don't see a way to actually change the instrument on the Mac, so I guess I'll have to wait.

I use timidity or BASMIDI on windows. On my android phone, I just use a little free midi player app.

Re: A Question about Soundfonts

So since I'm only able  to use a Mac for the next few weeks (will be getting a PC soon), but I have managed to get a soundfont working in GarageBand, though I can only get the piano to work. Any reason why I can't change instruments?

Re: A Question about Soundfonts

I actually used to use BASMIDI to make soundfonts available to MIDI programs as well, and to also replace the crappy Microsoft GS Wavetable synth with something better (the best soundfont for general MIDI is up to one's opinion though so I won't say mine). Lately, I've been using OmniMidi, which is a continuation of BASMIDI by kode54 with more features, as BASMIDI itself has been discontinued and the developer himself recommended everyone to switch to that.

Re: A Question about Soundfonts

OK, thanks for the help. I only used Reaper because I knew that it worked, but if a DAW supports midi instruments, does that mean they will «

Re: A Question about Soundfonts

I use bassmidi to make them available to midi programs like QWS and NWC, but there's probably something better out there. Bassmidi has a latency problem sometimes, when first playing some notes.I have no idea if Bassmidi works with Mac/Linux, or how Reaper works with midi.

Re: A Question about Soundfonts

Most soundfonts are packaged as .SF2 files, and, as long as you have an operating system that supports them (Windows, Mac, and others have support for them) you should be good to go.As for Reaper, since I don't use it I'm not sure if it has native SF2 support out of the box.
