And no, I didn't read the book yet, so if they expect me to depend on the book to know what to do next or where to go, when I could have to go to a different city or a totally random building somewhere in some alley in any city, then how on earth would I know? You need to change your language switcher buttons to something else in order to play the game. I just figured it out, and now it's working fine for me.
