I figured I would give you a little bit more about my background as a game beta tester since obviously if I'm going to throw my name into the hat to be picked for this beta test I had better share with you my credencials. I've beta tested two different audio games, parelless hearts was the second game and terraformers was my very first game that I had ever tested. I absolutely loved the work, and just in case you're wondering if I'm good at keeping my mouth shut and not giving away any secrets, the answer is yes. They'd have to fire a plasma cannon at me and blow my ship apart before I'd give up the ghost if you know what I mean. Lol. And you know the rest from our conversations in game. I'm frank in the game by the way. Have a wonderful day and if I don't get picked for the beta testing, I am darn sure looking forward to the world comeing back out to the public and trying it out if your recording s are any indication. Re: DeathMatch, a new beginning Hi Danny,So far, so good. I listened to that demo you posted and it sounds great. Fusion jumping is now way easier. I used to hate having to type in coordinates just to enter fusion space. I also like the new galactic coordinate system a lot. It is much easier to find star systems and navigate between them and not having to read out large numbers when checking coordinates. Finally, landing on surfaces is also better. Now, you know exactly when you are going to land and have control over where you land. Before, you had to select from a huge list of destinations on sensors. Now, there is a dedicated land on surface option, which makes this process much easier. Again, this game already sounds like a stark contrast to DMNB 1 and much more playable it seems. Since progress was unexpectedly fast with v2 despite being reritten from the core, I feel that it is possible again to start hiring a private alpha testing group. Before you apply by sending me a pm or replying on the topic, please do note the following. 1, this is very very early alpha software. While I can say with sirteny that i've never had to use the error log on the server itself, this is only with me and 2 other testers, both of whom come on not very frequently, online at once. I can't prommiss that the server won't flip out on us, but i'm hoping it doesn't. 2, their are no activities. No asteroid mining, no colony supply delivery, none of that. When you sign up to test, you will be at the most for currently, be testing the very basic space engine i've put together, and will be receiving upgrades as I put them in. In otherwords. You are not on the team to play and relax. You are on the team t o help track down bugs and it is your job to report them. Yes, the game is boring at present, it will be your job to look for bugs and test, just as it will be my job to make the game intresting. 3, this is my vision, my game. What I mean by that is, and I realize that that might have just come off harsh their, that their will be no crazy feature suggestions like teleporters or warp speeds. If you have a simpple suggestion, or something you feel that could contribute to the universe, with out distorting what we've got, i'm all ears. If I say it can't be done at the time or I deny it, as harsh as it is, I respectfully ask that the ishue be politely dropt. 4, if you can't test do to one condition or another, please, do tell me so, don't leave me sitting their for 6 weaks expecting testing from you. And finily, 5, respect everyone else, including myself. Remember, I work hard to bring you my titles and to put the same quality into this title as i've done w ith my other titles for the past 3 years, and everyone else on the testing team also deserves respect even if you don't like that person personally. If you have an ishue with said person and it baddly interfeers with your testing, tell me so and drop from the testing team, that's all their is to it. With that in mined, if you are bizzy I will understand, but for though's who haven't told me so, i'd at least like a little bit of testing done when you can get to it. I don't have a specific time limit so their's no you must at least put 1 hour into testing, but I do ask that you at least do your best when you can test. If the server crashes while your online, I want to know about it. In short, I want to get a stable, playable and much more enjoyable game that not only I will be happy with, but that the rest of the people who have enjoyed the dm series and the universe can be happy with out this time round. Their isn't much to see but you'll notice some drastic changes where the engine has been made way more responcive, speshily when you switched rooms onboard a ship. My twitter for anyone who's intrested is danny226. And now, a small but good progress update for though's who are very curious. So far, the main things that are done is a brand new account system allowing you to have multiple players, and the basic ship interior system. Not to mention that when you start, your taken through player creation and asked to select 2 skills. That's right, we're getting a skill system. I'm also taking this major opertunity to revamp the console system to both be more easy and to also allow for crews, as aposed to the old system of setting a sirten station type on a console and being done with it. Also, before you go way into this, I'd like to point out something from DMNB1 that I didn't have the heart to before, since it would make you recode a lot of things. The coordinates were not calculated in a proper way; they were all mesured as 1 it seemed. If you were at 55 55 55 and your target was at 551000 551000 551000, it would still take warheads 1 minute and 30 seconds to reach the target, which is how long it takes them to travel only 1000 coordinates. But if you think about it, it has 3000 coordinates to travel: 1000 on the x plain, 1000 on the y plain, and 1000 on the z plain. This should also apply with zones: if you are at y 15 and z 15 of the zone known as "Federation space", I think you still should not be considered as being in that zone if your x was 300 coordinates higher than the y and z. I point this out because you would be unable to fire at ships, (as though you were in fed sp ace), if even 1 coordinate was below 20. You could've been at 0, 55230002, 12920303, and still not able to shoot because your x was below 20. My original intentions were to leave it up even after the release of v2 since I know their are people who may not like the more serious and more my own touch personality i'm taking with v2.0, but alass. One of dmnb v1's gratest problems was it was rushed through its testing phases. For the most part, this is why i'm holding off on suggestions and why i'm not selecting a testing team. Menny people got over enthuziastic out of the testing team when I first unvailed the very early alpha of v1,, this resulted in a rushed backlog of feature requests before ships were even able to dock and undock, which in the end overloaded me to the point where I stopt paying attention specificly to my own vision of the game. As I explained, i'm a gets to things when he can type of guy. Meaning the type who does his homework at the last minute and not when its given out at school, etc. If I forget, I forget, and that's th e end of it. This is also exactly why I never give release dates, not even to myself or to the general public, specificly because 9 times out of 10 i'll either forget or i'll be louzy and not operate on the timeline. I get to things as I see them baste on importents as aposed to baste on a timeline. And on the release dates, I don't ever even know myself when i'll release a new version of a project or a new project in general. Mainly because if their's something missing, i'll not release it out. If I know its under tested and its glairing with gaping bugs, I'd generally prefer to keep it under my development. Minimizes bug reports, and whenever I get them, it then allows me to deal with them in a more timely fassion, as aposed to remembering 101 other things to do on my todo list. And this is precycely one of the gaping defects dmnb v1 had. I intended to take it slow but the feature suggestions rushed me, not to mention their were a very few number , they know who they are who got on and actually helpt me look for critical bugs. At that critical stage, I wanted to focus on bug fixes, something which would make a solid base to add onto as it were. However, because of this rushed tendancy, several major defects got drasticly overlooked. The result was a game that couldn't decide weather it wanted to be dm or a space mud rapt up in audio, and a game which had glairing defects and because I was not cumffy at all with the game itself, no matter how hard I tried to be or how I felt at the time, I was unwilling to fix them. Hents, v1 gained its reputation for being notoriously unstable and prone to problems. So When yesterday I believe it was uncharted colonies corvettes swept through inderion station and blew apart several ships, I realized that not only does the game require my constant super vision but it also requires way too much of my time, time which tbh i'd rather spend on pumping out the projects I want to pop out, that I honestly enjoy developing. I've cleared the original dmnb v1 source from the server, and am debating weather to remove it from my hard drive, i'm on the verge of saying yes as I intend to do nothing with the code.. Oh, and for the navigation system it works like this. Your ship has 2 sets of coordinates, your normal coordinates and your galactic coordinates. Your galactic coordinates controls what actual area of space your in, for exampple a system or a blank area of space. A sector is 100 by 100 by 100. Each time you reach that limit, baste on a heading you picked, one of your coordinates will change. If for exampple your at a heading of 0 which is north, and your y coordinate is above 100, your y coordinate will reset to -100 for the next sector of space, and your ships y galactic coordinate will increase by one. To turn around back to the system you just left you'd turn the ship to a heading of 180. I hope this is making sence, but anyways, it will make not only navigation loads easier and cut down on the annoying infanent space thing, but combat can actually be much more engaging now. It might get hard to get used to teleporters, especially because some things in the space are just gigant; there are some ships or planets where curten things are in 1000s, even in 1 (for example tram on nova galactic mining frater or whatever it is called) and there are also some ships that you forget where they are or just can't fly to them at this verry moment. But your replacement of teleporters would still be Quite nice, and it is much more realistic, too. if you forget where your ship is then well ... it is lost.Personally I think that it is after all your game, and that even though you should listen other players, try to still keep your games what they should be.So yeah, good luck with DMNB and DM in general. Originally, I was going to keep the server up for players to enjoy, that is until the game randomly started blowing up almost every ship around inderion station. From this, i've concluded that not only is the original dmnb far too unstable for me to leave unattended and focus my attention on what I want to focus on, but that it'll also distract me from my current task. Which is to make a newer, and better dmnb v2.0. Ritten as I exactly want it to be with out the extra teleporters and such, and as I invisioned the universe as shown in project alpha. While i'm not accepting testers for version v2.0, if you wish to apply, you may pm me and i'll keep you in mined for when i'm ready to accept testers. I won't give any details at the moment on how v2.0 is coming along, mainly because their isn't anything super awsome to report just yet, but rest assured when their is, i'll post either on the site or her e just as I did with my previous installments. And now, for future if you want to become a tester. Once again, i'll reittorate my requirements, and though's that I pick hopefully will follow them. 1, your here to test. Your not here to play and play. If we have bugs, do please report them. 2, please do understand that while I do work fast, I don't fly at the speed of sound. I'm a gets to things when he can type of guy, so I respectfully ask that that be respected, and you are payshant until I get to the bug that's bothering us, that doesn't mean hound me 6 times until I get it fixt, it means report it and when I can i'll get to it. And last of all, and this is done just as a simpple request, please, save any suggestions until I ask for them, prytty please? That doesn't mean give them to me just because we can fly, it means you give them to me after the building is done, after the stibility fixes are committed and after the boring bits are done . And if I deny a feature request I ask that it just be left at that. The original dmnb suffered from a case of not knowing it was wanting to be do to all the suggestions, I don't want that this time around. If I deny your suggestion, it doesn't mean that I don't cair, it means it either is beyond my current coding abilities but will be looked into when I can think of a possible way to implement it, or it doesn't go with the theme and my vision. And lastly, and this is just on a personal note, I respect that we all have lives and reel life is more importent than gaming, but if you can't test, do please tell me so, don't leave me in the bin and expecting work from you. I'll do everything I can to preserve your spot if you notify me that you can't test, and just a simpple I can't test for x amount of time is all that's required. Anyways, with that out of the way, i'll continue working on v2.0 of dmnb and post an update when I can. Since the original dmnb is down, I am thinking of deleting the articles from the articles room pertaining to the old dmnb and asking that the entry for dmnb be deleted in the db. When I first started playing DMNB, I was rather disappointed coming from Project Alpha because of the amount of time players spend on board their vessels like a commercial pilot flying round the clock to accomplish various tasks. What was particularly unsettling was the limited amount of ground-based game play, which meant that all players would do is dock on a planet or space station, enter an area with a galactic network terminal, buy the equipment they needed, and board their vessels again.In contrast, Project Alpha kept players busy throughout its entirety. From level one to level five, players had to navigate their environment, explore areas for objects, and buy equipment at galactic network terminals. Weapons also had to be upgraded to insure that monsters could be dealt with efficiently. This was all done while trying to put a derelict together just enough to be able to escape the asteroid belt and escape Red Warp as it exploded, leaving them stranded on Inderian Nine. The subsequent quest to search for all of the components for the gravity jammer to then destroy the project was also intense. Without getting to deep into the game play itself, the concepts you introduced were groundbreaking for an audio game.Now, I totally understand why a redesign of DMNB is necessary. As you pointed out, the teleporters were implemented as a convenience for players, but they don't resemble the realistic experience of navigating the corridors of a vessel, or the surface of a planet. Red Warp was huge indeed, so was Glimmer of Hope, but I was able to learn the layouts of both ships and complete the game five times, enjoying it each time I did so. The cockpit-centered approach made the game rather boring for beginners to be honest, as there wasn't really much to do until enough credits were earned in order to upgrade to a much larger, more powerful vessel, which was capable of deep space exploration, combat, and planet cracking, among other things. So, providing players with a variety of activities, both in the pilot seat and on the ground will undoubtedly the replay value of this game. There were many times when I decided to take a break from DMNB because there weren't enough players to do missions with, since each player was focused on mining, planet cracking, or salvaging in order to earn the most amount of credits. That was one of the main problems, the idea that one player had to have more credits than every other player, which meant that the game looked more and more like a competition that decided whose ship was the best and most powerful. Instead, players should be able to explore derelicts together and not just to salvage artifacts, but to repair damaged components, as was the case in DM Pa. Along t he way, they should face similar dangers, such as self-destruct sequences, monsters, and structural failures, which would require problem solving in order to avoid certain death. That was the appeal of Project Alpha and taking this game in a similar direction will be a welcomed sign of progress. Finally, the reasons which brought you here are largely based on the player base. You had to deal with Drama, both on this forum and on the server, which didn't contribute to the development of this great game. Players were asking for custom ships, credit hand-outs, and features that weren't necessary, couldn't be coded in a timely manner, and detracted from the main ideas of the DM universe. So, don't be bothered by players who cause drama, demand constant updates, or free credits and rewards to progress through the game. This game can be enjoyed by everyone, as long as no one ruins it for everyone else. Fire star cracker then the 100billion. This ship can crack minerals and can hold 5 cargo to deliver. Something like that. That's only a suggestion. I think that would be all for now. Thanks.
