I have never gotten KNFB to successfully read any kind of electronic display other than my computer screen, I believe it's because KNFB doesn't recognize the seven segment displays often used for displaying numbers.Also, those types of displays often have a shiny plastic cover over them, so you have to treat it like a mirror and minimize the possibility of reflections.I've had much better luck using TapTapSee to read those types of displays.Until I got my talking programmable thermostat, I used it to read the original digital thermostat and it had a rather small display. Re: KNFB Reader on sale! Ok ok ok. I sort of dipt into my get an IPhone fund and got this app. The first I did with it was to read a screen from a radio i have setting on my desk. I guess I didn't get the cam lined up exzackly right, because I got a bit of trash. Any ideas on how to get it to read a screen that is ruffly an inch or two in size? The size there may be a bit off seeing that I didn't take a ruler to it. Anyway, it sort of read off a few of the controls, but not all of them, neither did it get the frequency from the screen. Anyway, I will have to try it on something else. Maybe my photo ID... I can't seem to discipline myself to use just my elbows on the table. Best to stay with knfb reader. You took the words right out of my mouth. That was the one reason that convinced me to spend the money for KNFB Reader. I like that the OCR engine is right there on my device, no need to send my scans to heaven knows where, with all the privacy can of worms that that opens.The way I use it is to first scan the envelope to make sure the mail piece is addressed to me, then I scan the first page of the enclosed letter to get an idea of what the mail is and whether it's junk or something important. Important mail will be scanned with Open Book later, which usually gives me better results than KNFB Reader does.There is no way in hell or anywhere else I'd scan anything that might have personal or sensitive information with any a pp I couldn't be certain wasn't sending the scans to some server somewhere in the cloud. Re: KNFB Reader on sale! *cough* The free or lower priced apps either use a server which you can never trust, require extremely precise positioning, or just don't have good ocr engines. Only exception is Prizmo, although I was using that on an ipod touch 5g with a bad camera. Kerzweil has been a trusted ocr engine for a very long time, so Knfb is definitely worth the money.
