Re: NVDA issues on a Faster laptop

@crashmaster, What do you mean when you say Valv don't want blind users to use their client? Everything I've done with the website is accessible on Steam, though installing and managing content could be easier. On the contrary, I've heard that Windows Security is a fine antivirus.

Re: NVDA issues on a Faster laptop

Well yes it is, but valve don't want the blind using steam. The steam client has never been fully accessible even though its website seems to be.Now if guidedoggames had paypal and more titles that may be a good alternitive at least for blind games. Some security guys online say windows defender is not that good. With bgt and a lot of accessible software being false positives, I am not sure how my virus scanner protects me.I have excluded all games folders in program files, all blindness everything in fact.I have excluded all drives from d to g, because f and g are my backup hard drives which are not plugged in all the time, drive e is my cd drive, drive d is my data drive. So if anyone put a virus laden drive on f or g then I'd probably get a virus and have to reformat but its bettr than getting false positives I guess.I like windows defender but the fact we have no choice is a concern, there are many other antivirus checkers and some have a few more bells and whistles, bells and whistles I am not missing on but which I wish to have.

@boy, Joking aside, you do realize mainstream gaming is incorporating accessibility more and more, right?

Re: NVDA issues on a Faster laptop

We all have our opinions. If I don't want Steam on my computer, I don't have to have it. Isn't it only used for buying and playing video games? If it is, then I don't need it.

Re: NVDA issues on a Faster laptop

McAfee shouldn't be messing with NVDA. Though it's not bad in my opinion, I think Windows Defender is more accessible. Just uninstall McAfee, Internet Explorer and all those stupid video games and Steam that comes with those computers. Don't use Nortan, Nortan thinks that everything is a virus. Literally! For me, the video games were more of a pane than McAfee since I'd allways get notifications saying things like, buy Minecraft! That's why I, not bringing it up here. Installed Windows, and no more Minecraft, Steam or any other video game crap. I don't even know if the computer I have now came with McAfee, I think it came with Nortan which was the first thing I uninstalled.

Re: NVDA issues on a Faster laptop

McAfee is horrible! I agree with the previous poster's suggestion of uninstalling it and sticking with Windows Defender. If for some reason you cannot or will not do this, try adding the NVDA folder as an excluded location. This should prevent McAfee from interfering.

Re: NVDA issues on a Faster laptop

A bump and update on things.* Checked Macafee. there was no devouring of the screenreader components itself. However, I'm not sure why it's functioning different from my other laptop on certain behaviors.*the accent thing was the voice it was using. Switching fixed it.*I'm not sure if the other laptop has the most up to date Screenreader. however, I don't have the latest install for 1909 update on that one. this laptop is fully updated, including the questionable "fixes" going on right now. maybe that had something to do with it? the issues began July 12, about the time I decided to update to the first windows update of the month.*microsoft Word still has a weird delay appearing on the faster laptop for about a second and a half. the slower laptop doesn't take that long and opens the list of suggestions. Minor, as i can just ignore the spelling errors until I hit the spellchecker and manual edits. it's only on word, spell recommendations on other edit fields work fine.*I sometimes keep hearing unknown when I close a program. Now, with my experience on the other laptop, sometimes I end up on the task tray or whatever for Malwarebytes. I'm guessing that when I drop out of a program, I'm ending up on whatever thing macafee says, and that's not readable.*i still don't have notifications reading automatically when they pop in. For all I know, that's maybe a NVDA setting I don't have.I might hit up the NVaccess mailing list and see if other issues are being reported like this. July has been a weird month for computers it seems, and all may stem from a bad series of Updates for Microsoft.
