People generally don't care who controls their app ecosystem, as long as they can do what they need to do. As long as most people aren't inconvenienced by the lack of a filesystem, likewise, they aren't going to be concerned if their platform doesn't support one, and anyway, remote storage services (including Apple's) have solved that problem too.Of course, I'm with those who generally agree that it's insufficient for what I'd like to do. Then again, I do understand the trend away from general-purpose, much as I dislike it. I wouldn't consider using ChromeOS, but I do think it has come very far in such a short space of time and could well be the new face of computing if network connections keep getting faster and the ecosystem is opened up to the entire web. You can do your computing on big iron, and the ir on doesn't have to even be in your own living room. Of the apps currently on my Mac, the only two I'd consider serious blockers are server software and virtualisation, and of course both are very natural targets for a remote system. Times are changing ...Having said this, this is Apple, and Apple will find a way to make the future infeasible without some disagreeable levy or other, so it probably won't be the iPad. And the iPad is currently being killed by the iPhone 6 Plus, which provides a large enough screen to be useful. It will be interesting to see how the iPad Pro changes this. Add to that, the mac is more opened than the IPad pro, but the IPad pro does remind be of the surfice RT. LOL. I personally want a file system that I can access along with the ability to run any apps that I want without apple having a say in what I install. LOL. Is 128 GB the biggest they can get in this device? Anyway, it will to some degree take some sells away from their laptops, but how much I really can't say. It is also clear to me that the mac over all will not be replaced. If I had to guess, this will replace the mac books if anything, but even that is questionable. It will be interesting seeing who buy these and for what. I am betting for graffics. To me, the macbooks still make a pretty good word processing computer along with other things. All that apple has literally created is a better (and restricted) version of the Mac, with touch screen abilities and no keyboard. Why apple tries to dictate what you can and can't do on your device is beyond me. Not to mention that I also know of some partially sighted users, myself included, who just go for the bigger screens because they're easier to see for them. I also know of some people, fully sighted or partially sighted, who won't want to carry around a big huge 12 inch tablet wherever they go, add to that a Smart keyboard that sounds promising.
