Re: Resources to learn spanish accessibly?

@11: Glad to know there are others who are enthusiastic about languages! Man, I feel bad because for the longest time, we've been meaning to connect. But I'm sure you're busy, and I find myself busy a lot of times as well. But certainly a good conversation among some of us VI polyglots would be really great.Anyway, OP, I hope some of these resources help.

Re: Resources to learn spanish accessibly?

@10, a man after my own heart. lol We really should geek out about this some time... multilingual podcast episode? @1, this is the only site you will ever need. I became fluent just by using it and proceeded to slam through all the first and second year college spanish courses at my school with 100% every semester. All thanks to this site.www.studyspanish.com

Re: Resources to learn spanish accessibly?

@6:Yes the basics are the same in all variants of Spanish. You're also correct about that one difference you noted between Mexican and European Spanish. There are other slight subtleties, like differences in pronunciations of z and c, the French-sounding j and g, and a few others. Additionally, many Latin American versions of Spanish are also different in pronunciation from one another, such as some countries omitting the letter s, or over-exaggeration of the letter y. A video I thought was pretty good in showing off some differences is this one.For reference, the video will go through a few rounds of some people from Spanish-speaking countries talking about their country and the language. The order is: Mexico, Chili, Spain, Venezuela, Colombia. There'll be about 3 rounds of this.I love languages so have done some pretty good research on this, and many other languages and their dialects and variants. Also, quick aside, I've listened to my fair share of people speaking Portuguese, Italian, and even Catalan, and I have to say, knowing Spanish and French fluently really helps! I was surprised how much I am able to understand. And yes, I am aware they're all in the same family of languages. But I just find it interesting.

Re: Resources to learn spanish accessibly?

Hello. No new info here, but I've been using Duolingo for years now and would highly recommend it for getting to a basic level of fluency. That, along with conversational practice from native/ fluent speakers will work wonders. The more you can speak, the better it will be. Hope this helps.

Re: Resources to learn spanish accessibly?

I've been living for more than a year in Germany and I still can't quite make out the afinity of Germans with Spanish. It's such a big difference in terms of languages.P.S. I don't have anything against Spanish. I actively use a sister language of Spanish, Italian.

Re: Resources to learn spanish accessibly?

Hi.at for thanks for the link, I will check it out. Honestly, I don't know what variant I want to learn. I know that there are some intonation differences, with european spanish I think you havea different tone on the s where Mexican spanish speaks the s normally, could be wrong though. If you possibly could point me to a video where you can hear the differences or tell me what the differences are I could get a better picture. I suppose the language basics are the same everywhere?Greetings Moritz.

Re: Resources to learn spanish accessibly?

You can try SpanishPod101. I haven't tried this site as I speak Spanish as a first language, but its sister site, JapanesePod101 helped me get to a pretty good level of fluency in Japanese. Similarly, KoreanClass101, yet another sister site, helped me get to a good starting level of Korean. Also, which Spanish variant do you want to learn. As you may already know, there is differences between European Spanish and Mexican Spanish, just as there are differences between all the spanish variants in Latin America. The differences are more colloquial in nature, but a big deal to natives if you don't accommodate. lol

Sometimes Duo is hard though because there are images with some questions and you need to be able to see them
