And for the record yes, I did follow all the steps in the guide, installing Ap Locale and the Japanese keyboard language and making sure my settings were set correctly in Instant Translate. Last night I even tried pressing the right alt and shift keys and diferent combinations of the left and right ones to see if maybe that wasnt where my problem was. Still no luck. Ive even gone online to see if I could find out if there was indeed a different keystroke for switching the keyboard language and no luck. Unless its a combination of the new instant translate, and having to start with fresh game settings, though if you chose NVDA as your output source then it sounds like an instant translate issue to me, or something went wrong in the installation of the language support. But no matter what I did I couldnt get actual translations, either the Japanese ProTalker would speak Japanese or the horrible English ESpeak voice wouldtry and fail to speak Japanese. But theres another thing. nless I can actually use one of my better quality voices to play the game Im not goin to be very inclined to do so. Granted I was able to do that with the non voiced version, but then I only had a few days worth of trouble getting that one to play nice with Instant Translate as opposed to the kin of trouble I seem to be having now. Knowing my luck its probably a Vista issue, and me not being able to aford to upgrade. I dont have the Japanese Pro talker or whatever it is, as I dont need it. I use two keystrokes every time I hear text, one to send info to the clipboard and another to translate it. Its not perfect, but it does the job. The only Japanese I actually hear - and this is only if I want it - is the stuff that people are actually saying. Since I played through the game several times last year, I actually disabled the voices and just had it spitting text, since I knew basically what I had to do anyway.Once youve heard the story once, the only part where translation is handy is if:1. You find a new ending, new area (that swordsman thing, for instance) or new dialogue that you dont remember from before, and2. If you forget the story, and3. If you want to be refreshed or kept abreast of exactly whats happening. You can actuall y play the game as long as you remember the keystrokes.All this having been said, I currently have an issue where NVDA no longer translates properly (it says error translating text), so Ill have to address that. However, I do know there have been some issues lately with the Instant Translate thing, people were very worried that it had been discontinued but its only been upgraded. Ill have to look into this. And the more I see, the more I think I will. I burnt myself out on the game last year, but I might dig it up again. Kinda got sick of the BK games as well, since in BK3 I hate the airplane levels and in BK2 I got to a level full of gun turrets and drop-offs and no matter what I did, I seemed to die (either got shot or fell to my death). Well, when playing the game, the Japanese protalker should always talk... unless there is something wrong with your computer or youre missing a step which we arent aware of. But if youve followed the guide as youve said, then it may be a windows vista problem. If you have your source language set to Japanese, and your target language set to English, then there should not be an issue. I would again recommend trying to figure out how to switch keyboards within a program, since you said alt+shift isnt working... which is od because that is both the default for Windows XP and 7. Unless the language support itself is faulty somehow. As much as it bothers me when people rage about the games not working, I do get how frustrating it is... especially for the people who have been hoping for this sort of game for a long time. Id offer my personal guarantee that the game is worth all the effort, but that doesnt say much... the only recommendation I can give is switching your target language to English and making sure of those settings. Other than that, Im not sure whats going on... works fine on windows 7. Autodetect languages doesnt help anything, because then Google translate gets confused as to the language at times. The only time when instant translate should spit things back at you is when you try and translate from a language which is not that of the text youre trying to translate. Either way I do hope this gets resolved... its a shame that there isnt a team that is dedicated enough and knows the language well enough to translate some of these. But with a game that has hundreds if not thousands of lines of dialog, you cant be a one man team... and you have to also know the language and be able to translate properly. And as Ive said Ill ocasionally get English in the difficulty setting menu but thats it. I did have some issues with getting Instant Translate to play nice with the original game but Im pretty sure it didnt take this lon to sort out. The thing with Aprones games is that there is only so much to translate... Shadow Line, Bokurano daibouken 3 have much more complicated text to try and translate. Story, emotions, all that has to be translated properly, and it can be difficult to do that. Something like swamp which is in many languages has less text, and less story driven dialog. Though language files would be an option, Galaxy Laboratory only hears from the people who actually already like the games and play them, not the people who want to see them translateed. When you press down arrow in a dialog scene, that doesnt translate it, just reads the text that is already spoken, kind of like a subtitle. If your source language is set from Japanese, and your target language is English, everything should work... unless its a windows Vista issue.@musical profesor, Im not saying youre wrong. But you make it sound like its easy to get a game translated, or even to build a translator that could translate accurately from Japanese to English. Sighted people buy imports all the time without even knowing the language, and on consoles, where translation isnt even possible. As to the podcast or recording showing you the game, I have a walkthrough of the game up on this forum somewhere that Im in the process of completing, but I cant right now due to computer issues not letting me play the game. And it definitely does not take too much time... it just seems that way because you hear way more from the people who have problems getting this to work than the success stories. It took me maybe about 20 minutes to set up my computer to play Japanese games, and I can play every one of them without a hitch, at least, no hitch that doesnt have to do with my computer mesing up. And Im not quite sure what you mean by fighting to make games for the blind... there are games that regularly come out from blind developers nowadays, and many games that are accidentally playable by the blind on consoles and IOS alike. Theres no fighting here to get things translated. you need three utilities, and NVDA should already be on most peoples computers.. which really only leaves instant translate and clip copy, or App Locale if you choose to use it. Im not bashing anyone here, I just think that people make th is isue a whole lot bigger than it actually is. Im not opposed to translation, because that would make many people have an easier time, but people make it sound way too simple to translate a game. If you havent played the game, then you have no scope of how much dialog there actually is to translate. Im also not sure why windows 7 wont let you switch keyboards, but at least it works if you automatically output to nvda and use clip copy. Clipboard output should work, I just tested it with the latest versions of everything and it works fine. Wonder what the problem is. hahaha. Simply run the game, but do not change the option to clipboard under screen reader. Leave it as auto-detect, which is the first option. If you need to reset it so that it is back on auto-detect, open the game, arrow down twice, hit enter twice. Then begin as usual. It will ask about the screen reader again, and this time just leave it be. Hit enter until you hear the logo, and you should be good to go from there. ProTalker should speak correctly after that. Then just use F12 to copy to clipboard, and instant translate to translate from there. Re: Shadow Line full voice demo released! Assault,I added the IME in control panel, and I still couldnt get it to work correctly, even when I was being told my keyboard was Japanese. So I just left it as auto-detect and it seems to work fine that way. I double checked, and the box that adds the IME is checked. So not sure whats going on, but its probably a windows issue. As to the issue of everthing translating correctly when using autodetect, its because the game is actually using NVDA as its output source. And the Japanese keyboard, or any other keyboard, doesnt work when you switch applications. So you actually should start the game then switch keyboards while youre in game.@musical_professor, whether these games are worth it is purely a matter of preference. I think so, and there are many who do, but if you dont thats fine as well. And comparing an rpg to a fighting game in terms of dialog isnt exactly equal, but I know what youre saying. hahaha. I know that it switched, because NVDA let me know that it had switched to Japanese, yet the issue where things werent handled by ProTalker, and translations did not occur persisted.@Musical_Professional, I dont mind a little extra work if it means I get to play a game that is very well done, and in some cases clearly eclipses anything we have in the American audiogame market in terms of quality. Im guessing this is a Windows Vista issue, because yes I did install the Japanese language and the Ime file. And when I downloaded Clip Copy it was a compressed zip folder. When I unzipped it there was no NVDA add-on.There was a folder called Global Plugins with a .cpi file inside. FTSM. not saying this is not a good title but it seems more trouble then what its werth just to play it. translate this, translate that, copy this, download that? Nah. If this is ever translated in English, then awesome but if not, ill be taking a rain check. even in the visual world of fighting games that were not in English, it didnt take much to learn what they were saying. to some degree and a blind person could very well play them fine. but this? clutter yalls systems if yall want but, FTSM. and before anyone says anything, yes I know this is not a fighting title but its close enough in my ook to comparison. hope it works out for yall to figure out. When I hit Shift+Insert+Y I get n error message that says error translating text. See log for details. Then when I view the section of the NVDA log that talks about Google Translate it gives me a URL and says service unavailable. So unless theres something Im missing I suspect the service might be down. Re: Shadow Line full voice demo released! A while back I went through Bladestorm’s guide for Japanese games and set up my PC so that I could play BK3. It was awesome, and seemed to work very well. So I was on the forum the other day, and I saw this title. I figured that it would probably be very good as well, if everyone’s good reviews and what I had seen in BK3 was anything to go on. So I downloaded it, and made sure again that all was set correctly through Bladestorm’s guide, just as I did it with BK3. I ran the program through App Locale, running NVDA 2015.1, latest version, and Instant Translate, latest version, 3.0, along with Clipboard to SAPI. I also downloaded Clements walkthrough, so that I would have something to base what I was hearing on my end versus what I heard from his end if I needed it. The problem that I seem to be having is that it’s not translating anything. Instead of translating it, it’s just spitting back to me the original garbled Japanese stuff, as if it didn’t try to translate it at all. And it’s doing it in places where the translation worked fine in the walkthrough, in game text/system messages. I even saw in the walkthrough that he was able to translate options for the game a couple of times, but mine just spits out garbled Japanese in the ESpeak voice, even though I am using ProTalker as my synthesizer. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Instant Translate, as well as NVDA, both to no avail. So what is it that I am doing incorrectly? Any help would be appreciated. I forgot, you have to activate the Japanese keyboard from the locale, and when you open the game, with alt shift more you change the keyboard to Japanese. Moreover, how is switching my keyboard going to affect text given to the clipboard? Input isnt the issue. What I am receiving as output is the issue. Its as if things arent being recognized as Japanese, even though I have Instant translate source language set to Japanese and target language set to English. What happens is that when game text is being copied to the clipboard, ESpeak says a bunch of bgobblety gook like ï ó çº, etc, instead of ProTalker reading it as Japanese. Then, when I shift + NVDA + t, followed by shift T to translate the clipboard text, which is the command in version 3.0 of instant translate, it just spews that nonsense again instead of actually translating it. I never had this issue with BK3, though. But when I chose clipboard for output I had the same problems with things not being displayed correctly, and NVDA just spewing out a ton of nonsense instead of ProTalker handling it. Then, when translating, the same thing happened as before, it didnt translate anything, just repeated the nonsense again. So apparently theres a problem when choosing clipboard as output. I have found that if I do not change the option, and I leave it on auto-detect, ProTalker speaks correctly as it should, I can then use clip copy by pressing F12, and things are translated correctly. That holds true whether my keyboard is set to Japanese MS IME or English U.S. It makes me wonder which is more likely, whether th ere is a problem with the game where it cannot output to the clipboard correctly, or whether clipboard2SAPI is the one at fault, although if clip2SAPI had problems, wouldnt that also affect BK3? Its sort of inconvenient to constantly have to hit F12 with clip copy, but it does work correctly, as long as the option for output stays on auto-detect. Any thoughts? So I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Shadow Line, thinking this might fix the issue. However, I am having the same problem. I am using clipboard to sapi as well as the clip copy addon for NVDA so that I can copy text to the clipboard with F12. Here is an example of what NVDA says under options in the game, in the ESpeak voice, instead of saying it as Japanese. What it should say is something close to accessibility settings, in the ProTalker voice. Instead, what I get is, â A â N â Z â V â r â è â e â B É. Now, when I push shift NVDA T, then shift T to translate that text, it just spits that same nonsense at me, instead of actually translating it. I would understand that not everything will be pronounced correctly, but the translate commands should do what they say they do, just as they did in BK3. Its as if NVDA isnt recognizing them as Japanese, since when it does, the ProTalker voice is used, not the ESpeak one. Since I am already running clip copy with NVDA, I decided that this time I would not change the option from auto-detect for screenreader to clipboard. And now everything translates correctly. Im constantly having to hit F12 to copy things, but they all translate appropriately. And I did not need to switch keyboards either. So apparently changing the output to clipboard is what was causing the problem. Any thoughts? Re: Shadow Line full voice demo released! The reason that youre having these issues is because switching the keyboard in control pannel isnt going to change the keyboard when youre in the game. The reason text is scrambbled is that the microsoft IME needs to be active for text to translate properly to the clipboard. BK 3 is coded differently than Shadow Line, which is the reason this doesnt happen with BK 3. Also, if youre using clipboard to Sapi make sure shadow line is actually outputting to the clipboard and that youre using the right synthesizer. If Espeak is reading gibberish and not changing to protalker and reading Japanese, the characters arent being converted properly from the game and the Japanese keyboard is the only thing that fixes it. Whenever I start the game, if I use the US keyboard I get gibberish as well. I have to press alt+shift to change keyboards to the Japanese keyboard.
