The consonants are gathered from recorded speech samples, whereas the vowels are done by adding together sine waves to produce the harmonics for them. Re: The people behind TTS voices this is exactly the question I also have. recording hours and hours of audio, is not the problem, and, i am willing to do this. as, to my understanding, the more phrases, there is in a recorded audio, the better for the enjin, but the question remains, what app can we use that can put this all together, so that we can install and test it. if I can find that, I would be perfectly willing to record as many hours of audio as it needs. I'd even be willing to dissect, cut up, and do what ever I need to do, with this audio. to make the enjen as good as it could be. the idea that I get, from reading up, is that, the more and more recordings you have, the easier it is for the enjen to provide a natural voice, at the end of the day. so, if only we new what to use, to make this work, I'd be super happy to give this a go. They don't use any combination of both.There is a type of synthesis where you record some speech and then the recordings are used to create an Approximation of there vocal tract.This type of synthesis is called Hidden Markov Models and is used in engines such as modern Microsoft and Google TTS. Obviously he recorded a whole bunch of words, phrases, syllables, breath sounds, etc, sort of like Vocaloid. But to make it really high quality, that is another thing. Maybe Apple has some secret algorithm. But the fact that Apple is secretive about many things is the reason why they are one of the top leading money-making companies in the world. I'm also working on something a little exciting, I hope.I saw a PDF file that contained instructions on how to build a speech synthesiser using a Moog Synthesiser module and various electronic manipulatives. Still, I wonder what people do exactly to model someone's voice. For instance, is eSpeak modelled after someone, or is it purely formant and not based on any model? Is there an in-between category between formant and concatenative? For instance, I heard that Eloquence and Microsoft Sam were primarily formant, but they also had some concatenative elements that were processed with digital signal processing as well.The Wikipedia article indicated that there was a third type of speech synthesis called articulatory speech synthesis, but it didn't describe hot it was made, or at least, it didn't delve into the details of the processes needed to model someone's vocal tract to make a speech synthesiser out of it.@FlybyChow, you said before you were interested in making your own speech synthesiser using concatenation. I.E. Using small segments of your voice along with some digital signal processing, or have someone model your vocal tract by recording different things to make an analysis. I don't know if there are accessible spectograms or whatever it is they use to replicate someone's voice using tones and noise. It does sound a bit like Perfect Paul.As for where Microsoft Sam and those voices came from, they had to be from real humans as they use diphone synthesis, which takes really tiny samples of human speech and then does a boatload of dsp on them to control intonation and timing.A few days ago someone posted on Twitter about the Ivona Bryan voice and linked to a video of the guy who likely recorded for it, but I cant remember the name and didnt watch the video. Maybe Ill be able to find it again. Also that Graham sample from post 30 is almost perfect. I do love that voice for some reason and I can see how they made a tts voice from that, though in this recording the quality is a bit different, probably recorded from an old TV broadcast onto VHS or something similar. The TTS voice defini tely sounds better in terms of sound quality but is a lot more glitchy and roomy.I wonder where Acapela Ryan came from, his voice I always had a fondness to. For some reason he always sounded serious but happy during certain passages.
