If you use preroll, it records everything before the preroll point, and you can just control comma to expand that out until it's there.

Re: A couple reaper questions

one thing at a time:1. Set your audio device protocols accordingly, then try from 256 to 128 and halving further until you get that dreaded crackling. Is not the most graceful way to test, but at least you will know what is working but the important thing is to go slow and step by step otherwise you could in theory totally crash it all.2. is there any way to access other parts of a plug-in that are not mapped to parameters? depends a lot on what screen reader you are using and what plug you want to access.3. I record a few notes on a track. I need to record a few notes after that, and need to have a key switch active, so must start recording a few seconds before the new notes are played. But when I press record, the notes already on the track stop. How can I make it so every thing plays regardless of if I'm recording or not?if you need to have a key switch already active, its going to be way harder if you do it all on the same track and probably will be frustrating. Best bet is just to copy and paste the track to make a duplicate and then delete all of the items in there and record that way. It will go much smoother.

Re: A couple reaper questions

OK, do you have actual hardware or are you doing everything through software? If the former, you'll want to change your audio system to asio - provided the hardware supports this. If not, make sure it's on wasapi. On Wasapi, you get the block size, just try 256 and see what happens. If you start making big projects and you get artifacts during monitoring or playback, you'll have to raise it. You could go lower too, it's just trial and error to see what your system will tolerate.

The thing is I don’t even know how to actually lower the buffer size. when I go to the buffer settings there’s this giant block of text when I first tab in to the area and then there’s media buffer settings, and I feel like that’s not quite what I’m looking for, though I might be wrong. If I exit the buffer settings with out doing anything in return the project, for whatever reason the latency is much higher, and I relaunch reaper if that happens.

Re: A couple reaper questions

Generally speaking?  Lower buffer sizes mean lower latency.  the problem is, if your processor cannot handle those lower buffer sizes?  It won't matter how low you set them.  either it'll just flat out ignore what you're trying to tell it to do or it'll start crackling at you and throwing out other unwanted, undesirable things.  There's also the fact that when you are in the mixing phase you probably want larger buffer sizes for the sake of playback and monitoring final results and the like.  Believe me, I still run into this issue myself because my external hardware is, um, a little antiquated in terms of tech and sound gear.  I wish I had more money to throw around, but I don't.

A couple reaper questions

how can I reduce the latency with my keyboard? I've looked at the buffer settings and I can’t make sense of them. Also, is there any way to access other parts of a plug-in that are not mapped to parameters? For example, ethno world 6 has an info page on each instrument included with it, and I want to figure out how to access it. That and access any legado controls, because some instruments don’t have it turned on when they should.

your best bet with a midi section is:1. Split the item, and make sure there are no trailing notes when you play it.2. Glue it3. Loop it, by going into item properties and extending the length,  or copy and paste.

hello.understand that reapers timeline is unlimited. what you want to make longer, (as far as I understand,) is the items. you can,1. change it's speed.2. paste that item multiple times it the end of one before it.3. make time selection, go to the insert menue and insert empty item. it will be as long as you're time selection.4. not sure how it works stil but you can open item propertys, edit it's time, check loop item source and hit apply. for me it sometimes works sometimes does not. not sure why.fact: if you have a project 1 year long at 120BPM at the end you will be on bar 15768001 beat 1 0%.

Re: some reaper questions

@rory-games, when in the midi editor, you can move between single notes of a chord using the up and down arrow keys. To go to the previous or next chord, use the left or right arrow key. Generally, notes at the same position are viewed as chords, so a chord could therefore also only consist of one note. To select multiple chords/notes, hold the shift key while pressing the arrow keys. You can copy/cut selected chords/notes as you normally would. To change any of the selected chords'/notes' attributes, press CTRL+F2 and change the values you want changed. You can cycle through them with Tab/Shift+Tab.Similarly, you can select one or multiple notes in the event list, which you open by pressing Alt+3. Use the up and down arrow keys to cycle through the notes and hold shift to select multiple. Again, you can use CTRL+F2 to change them. To make a new event, press the application key and choose Insert new event, or press CTRL+Num 5. To get back out of the event list, press Alt+1 or Alt+2 (either works). For more information, read https://reaperaccessibility.com/index.p … _Roll_View

OSARA is no longer developed by NVAccess however, so you should get it from https://github.com/jcsteh/osara instead to be up to date.Best Regards.Hijacker

Re: Reaper questions

You're going to want to get the Reaper course from here. It's a great resource.I would also highly recommend adding SWS to your reaper/osara mix, you can get it here.

Re: Reaper questions

Hi Chris,For learning Reaper, I'd start with getting and installing Osara. It is the accessibility plug-in created by NV Access.http://github.com/nvaccess/osaraAs for actually learning it, I'm honestly not sure what are good resources.

Hi all,If one wants to learn Reaper, do you hav any tips on that? And at last, since it doesn't coem with that many software instruments and I am working with MIDI, do you have any tips? In Samplitude I used Magix independence, but I want to have the ability to select between high quality different acoustic instruments as well as acoustic drum kits. Many thanks for any help!

Re: A few Reaper questions

hi, there is tons of material, and we often link to some audio tutorials and other outside resources that we know of, including the cool blind tech ones and the accessible version of the user guide (all conversion was my work), so hopefully that should get you started. Plus there is always the rwp mailing list and its archives if you do not wish to subscribe, at http://bluegrasspals.com/pipermail/rwp/you could use a google site search by preceding that domain name with the word site then a colon then the URL and then keywords to search the archives like this:site:http://bluegrasspals.com/pipermail/rwp/ pitch correction

@sean, from what I have read, these articles are pretty well-written so you might have a good start from there.

Re: A few Reaper questions

I’m getting started with Reaper as well. I’m a musician, and I would love to be able to do a lot more with my music than I have been able to. I’ve only been using coincidentally enough Studio Recorder from APH to record multi track files. I’ve also used Goldwave in the past to do things as well. But since Reaper is specifically a Music DAW, I would really really like to get into it. Does the reaper Accessibility page have really good tutorials on how to really mastered your music creation?

Re: A few Reaper questions

ok, check out the following:, answerng one by one 1. How can I mix tracks? I mean, I would like for example to put a background music on top of my podcast ETCPut your podcast on a track, and the music onto anoterh track above or below it by using the insert menu. 2. Is there some kind of feature like voice over in Goldwavenot sure what voiceover is its been ages since I have used goldwave but I guess this ducks or lowers the volume of the music as you start speaking and raises it again when you stop talking. This is called sideChaining, and at the reaper accessibility wiki we have a specific article just for that. its athttps://reaperaccessibility.com/index.p … th_ReaComp3. Is there a central place with reaper plugins?reaper by default installs with all of its stock plug-ins. There are also some extenssions called the sws extenssions, and you can follow this other article to know where they are. https://reaperaccessibility.com/index.p … ng_Startedthere are also additional plug-ins if you install the reaPack extenssions (many useful little scripts that users have created, and also at the reaper stash found directly on the official reaper site)Thats all of the plug-ins I know that are reaper specific. Other things like vst's and such are found pretty much all over the net.
