There is a perfectly good folder of free, high quality footsteps right hereAnd a few more great packs here and here and here Oh and did I mention here and here and here as well and finally right hereI also put together my own little collectionAs far as I can tell, most of the footstep sounds in our games are from the SFX Kit, or popular mainstream games from around the time they were made.

Actually those libraries that people take their footstep sounds from, has footstep sounds that almost no one used in their things. It might be just like hay I heard that step sound in the game I played last month let's took this one then because it's famous. While there are other cool footstep sounds out there, too. just listen through those files. In most of the files, After each scilence there's a new variation of a footstep sound

Lets derail the topick and go with this.  Before I ask this, I ask all of you not to jump down my throat for this.  What I am asking for is a certain set of sounds.  I want to obtain them legally, but---ah fuck it.  What library did the warp sounds from the original TK come from?  I am sure i could ask and they would be given to me; as their are many of those who play the can you give me---sound/keys/activation code game; , but fuck that crazy shit.  I don't want to do that. I would like to know because I want to see what else that sound library has to offer.

In the game I'm working on with the GDE engine, I have my own foot steps. I've created my own instead of using from specific libraries or other games. My footsteps are randomized as well. I'm very proud of the work I've done so far in my own game creation. I never thought I'd ever be able to make my own audio game.

I think the reason they don't buy the libs, is because, most of the modern devs are kids and don't have money to buy a lib. @Black mana, are you talking 100 usd or other currency? Because, 100 USDs is 700 TTD and for that money, I could go and buy a decent phone.

I noticed the loop in aac when i was building my own stage with own foot steps and noticed that they kepd playing in the order i added them. I first thought that wasn't wanted, cause i still think it's kinda unlogical to do so, but that's just me.

A lot of audio game devs use sound ideas, hints why you hear the same steps in games over and over. While it is possible that they were taken from other games, it's unlikely, and more likely that they used sound ideas.

if you   check sonniss.com for sound effects librarys you mite find some     fx libs at a REASONABLE   price  for footsteps and alike, maybe less then 100 dollers or so, some designed, some  not, i like to design my own though with the construction kit

There are actually really, really good footstep sounds in not that expensive indie sound effects libraries out there, but as it seems, most audio games developers don't want to spend any money on their products, or at least not that much, and thus get the Sound Ideas libraries somewhere illegal for free, or maybe even purchase them legally, but they'll refer to those libraries quite often. I myself am a fan of indie libraries and thus didn't use them at all yet, but invested quite alot into Indie stuff which is really great. I'll hope that more audio games developers will do the same, for a bit more different soundscapes.Best Regards.Hijacker

Because it's like all people are using footsteps from sound ideas, in audio games and it's getting really old. For the love of every thing that is good... I'm guilty of this two because I use those in my videos. So because I can't rant against them with out not using that particular set of sounds and  sounding like a hypocrite, no more sound idea foot step sounds in my videos.

Well, its pretty simple to explain why VGStorm decided to go for that approach.When having footstep sounds, even if there are like 10 or even more footstep sounds for one underground, you're very likely to hear them pretty often, because you'll walk quite often in those games. When using randomization with those low numbers, it is very likely that you'll encounter the same random number getting rolled 2, 3 or even 4 times or more in a row at a certain point, which would sound rather messed up and not that great. Thats why many games use a single sound cue with a given length and play that on loop, the longer the better, because you'll need more time to actually notice the loop in it.Best Regards.Hijacker

The vg storm games, adleast adventure at c:, don't uses random steps at all. It just plays them in the row that they where added. I really don#t know why they did it that way cause it makes the thing mor complex to code then just placing a random thing.

Actually, that's an interesting point.Why is it that in some areas, when you're walking, it seems to cycle, like, 5-6 different step sounds on a given surface seemingly at random, and then in the very same game, you'll get a very specific cycle of step sounds? Is that planned, or is it shorthand, or what is it?Example: walk around inside Mt. Cinder in Manamon, and it's a very specific eight-step cycle. Walk on gravel outside, for instance, and it's random.

So I was wondering, how is it that most audio games have the same walking sounds?  Did someone end up purchasing a nice library and said buyer post it on a place where others could acquire them?  And heres my other senario.  Or is it that people are to lazy and just swipe the sounds from games.
