The way this game is coded, you depend on everyone's client being in sync and given the fact that the client does most of the work...yeah, we're gonna have problems If I have time this week I plan to rewrite a good bit of the code, but we may have to pay a price of lag. Re: Scrolling Battles Pro (SBP) Final Online Version 1.96 with server in terms of vehicles, I think an area separated by driving car hazards would be great to separate new players from experienced ones, make it hard to get accross with low health or require a car item that has to be entered, driven, then left that could disappear occasionally so that only people driving could navigate safely.For the store, just take the item spawns away from the map and make boosts instead, health speed clip size range etc, or add in special weapons like brass knuckles that do more damage trhen fists, long ranged lasers, maybe some more melee stuff like an axe or chain saw.I also think making the map more interested and or more areas to go to would be better for stratagy, as well as some map hazards that stay longer then fires and effect all players like elecric fences or random monkeys that throw bannannas, just a super random thought haha.adding in more things to fight then each other would be neat though, wouldn't have to effect point values and could keep track of them separately for kills etc. maybe killing bystandards would be negative points.anyway just some thoughts, I too stiull notice the fire killing you after a while and getting points, and the bug where pig sounds don't disappear for atleast five seconds, and most of the other things chris posted on his server atleast since it has been updated.I also was thinking, on a last side note, that having random time periods where only a certain type of weapon would be fun, so everyone would have to fight with fists once a few hours or something lol, because you don't see people using too many weapons often. Also, fire doesn't seem to sync for all players. I.E fire sometimes seems to be on one person's local client and not for everyone. Is this a bug or limit of the BGT network object. Here are a few random suggestions in no particular order.Find a way to only let players that are relatively close in ranks be isolated from players with much lower or higher ranks. Currently, you can fight anyone which is extremely unfair when you've got really high ranked players picking off people just starting out. The high ranked player is invinsible for all intents and purposes.There should be more environmental traps to hinder the player. For example, standing in the water for too long could cause your character to drown. The only one we have is the fire which seems to be buggy. It does damage very slowly which is not at all realistic. Speaking of the fire, is the fire death bug fixed as of yet? Said bug allows a player to die and earn points because it says the player was killed by themselves, so points are unfairly earned.Vehicles could be interesting. I'd love to jump into a helicopter and fly around shooting at players in the sky or on the ground. The vehicles should obviously use fuel and if you ran out, you'd either crash (in the case of the helicopter) or your vehicle would stop working and you'd have to abandon it. To level the playing field, players on the ground could use missiles or RPGs to try to take you down.There should be a store where you can purchase more ammo as well as rare or hard to find items such as a helicopter using points after you've obtained a certain rank or number of points. My harddrive apparently decided it'd rather stop existing and bale out on me, so i've had no computer for the last day or so and probably won't until tomorrow, maybe the day after. I was gunna just wait until I got it back before i posted here since I hate, hate hate typing on ios, but found myself on a school computer, so yeah.@slj, yes we can still login to people's servers, for multiple reasons, and none of them have anything to do with us being power hungry or whatever someone like simter might have you believe. we have like a couple extra commands we need for server maintanence, other than that we have no more power than you do. I'll say right now that part of the reason this exists is so we can keep an eye on servers, because if a server is on the list we want said server to be rellatively cheater free. This doesn't mean we'll start banning anyone who we think is a cheater or hanging around on people's servers watching or anything like that, it just means if for example we're online and see someone abusing something we can take care of that. A pretty good example of this would be about a week ago, I was on chris's server and saw a couple guys using the fire bug to just die over and over, both gaining a shit load of points and spamming the living crap out of the server. It's also partly for security on our end, since we need it to actually administrate the main server, and since we're dev we have a little more access than admins for things like server updating, stuff like that.If you're still worried about your server security were you to put one up or have anymore questions, feel free to get in contact with me privately. As long as you ensure that newer versions of the server require newer versions of the client, we should be good. It's also nice that people will be able to play this as long as someone is willing to host a server. The problem with most online services is that if the server goes away at some point in the future, you're essentially SOL.I'd also like to inform you that the oggenc2.exe file is missing from the latest download package. This seems to break voice chat.Finally, you might want to consider adding support to newer versions of the client to tell the user when the server requires a newer version. I tried connecting to my server using 1.96.9 and it simply said server unreachable, the same message it reports when the server is actually unavailable. I've added a way to hopefully make sure the server can tell which server is the main server and which isn't, so score postage won't be an issue. Scores you see in the scoreboard will only be the ones from the main server.For security reasons, mainly relating to the new main server fix, you'll not be able to make yourself dev via devifier anymore. I will however be making an admin rank which will serve more or less the same perpous.Depending on how things go, you can either expect to see the update later tonight or some time tomorrow. I think scoreboards are just one example of features that would just not work with custom servers, hence my other idea of either releasing a new version with all the current features with the server list and either not update it at all or rarely update it, or just removing scoreboards and adding custom servers back. all depends on what you think. Right now the server peeriodicly posts scores, so in order for that to not die horribly i'd have to somehow make the server know what server is the main one and what is custom.Another thing I could always do is make a special little version of the client and server, release them with the knollige that they most likely won't be getting any updates and let them have that. My question is then, would people even play the new version at all?Lately i've been playing chris's server quite a bit, and it seems like people really do like his server a lot. So, i think if i were to do that the main server would just become a goste town. Either way i lose. More natral.Adds a scoreboard system for the online mode.Items are now added to the buffer in single player. As a drawback, they no longer speak when you grab them.Adapts mine code for use in single player. Enemies can step on them now, they no longer try to send packets to non existant servers unless online, etc...Fixed see range wasn't really working properly in single player.Changed the item sound to a much more mellow and less annoying one.Updated input box to allow the user to press tab to hear the current title.enemies can now get hert by fires.Fixed the fire hurt timer wasn't restarting properly, leading to insanely fast fires doing insane amounts of dammage.Single player: fixed fires didn't effect you at all. What is it exactly about this game that makes it not designed for custom servers? I am playing on a custom server with an older version and will continue to do so. I see no problems with custom servers, and it should be easy enough to add them back in. Not leaving custom servers in the game is, in my mind, a huge disservice to to the player base, which is why I am sticking to this old version and will continue to do so.
