Michael,For starters, no, the two games are not at all similar. Smugglers is a space trading game, while Master of Orion is a space strategy game, in which you control a whole civilization rather than a single ship.Furthermore, I hope you aren't planning to purchase Master of Orion, as the graphical versions for sale on places like Steam are not accessible. The version I introduced a couple of months ago is a command-line re-implementation of the original Master of Orion, and is free.In short, Smugglers is the only game you need to purchase of the two you mentioned, and it is a very different game. In Smugglers you are flying a single ship, doing combat missions, and making a fortune running commodities back and forth in a fairly small scale. In Master of Orion you're controlling a whole species as it conquers the galaxy. The games are fundamentally different, aside from being set in space.
