We will be posting a new video on the Youtube channel this weekend. This one will most likely cover how to take off. Getting into flight simming is a steep learning curve.

Re: Talking Flight Monitor: an accessibility add-on for flight simulation

Thanks all for your interest. This started out as a very small project to see what I might be able to make work in a mainstream sim. Turns out, quite a lot! Since Andy joined the project last summer, the project is growing very rapidly. The next big things to come will be support for the PMDG 737 and 747 aircraft. We are also working on a way of importing flight plans so you won't need to rely on other add-ons.

Re: Talking Flight Monitor: an accessibility add-on for flight simulation

@9 study level systems simulations of big airliners. But an interest in aviation is required. If you just saw this topic and thought to yourself, "hmm OK, might be interesting", it probably won't be. You'll have to do some real studying to learn all about aircraft. Then you'll have to learn about procedures, how to work with ATC, and so on. Then when you get into the big jets, you'll have to learn how all the systems of that jet come together to keep you flying. This isn't a game, it's a simulation.

Re: Talking Flight Monitor: an accessibility add-on for flight simulation

What you need to understand that this isn't a game like Eurofly, this is a full fledged simulator with lots of customisations in addon aircraft. Planes like the Boeing 737 from PMDG are exact representations of their real world counterparts, including systems, features, manuals and what not. There are possibilitys for a more game like experience through addons where you can set up your own cargo or passenger transport business, or play the role of a pilot with the goal to earn money, rise in ranks and one day fly the big jets.As I said earlier, addons are the key to everything.Greetings Moritz.

Re: Talking Flight Monitor: an accessibility add-on for flight simulation

Thanks guys for your answers. So, the goal is just to fly from point a to point b? There are no upgrades etc. like in a game? Then I'm not sure if it'll keep my interest for long time. But I'm willing to give it a try if it's not too expensive to get started. What i really like is it of course have full graphics because it's mainstream. It would be amazing to fly around in countries I know and check out the airports. Especially if there are language packs available.I just wander: What keeps people interested in such simulator when you have learned all the basics?

Re: Talking Flight Monitor: an accessibility add-on for flight simulation

At SLJ, I'll answer the questions one by one.1: P3D is based on the FSX engine but was developed much further than the simulator by Microsoft. For starters, it's 64 Bit compatible unless FSX which is only a 32 bit application. While developed for military and training purposes, it has been developed much further in the physics department and other features that make it a more well rounded sim. It's abit heavier on the CPU and GPU, especially with addons, but it's well worth it.2: There is no story line to follow, the tasks and training missions are just that, simple tasks to get you up and running with the basic and more advanced systems of an aircraft.3: There is a multiplayer called Vatsim which simulates real world air traffic control, but unless you are well provicient with real world ATC procedures, better stick to AI solutions firstly.4: I wouldn't purchase a flight controler unless you use it for other purposes already. It's not really worth it in my opinion because many things are done with the autopilot and you can barely use it.Better save the money and spend it on bennificial addons.Greetings Moritz.

Re: Talking Flight Monitor: an accessibility add-on for flight simulation

Fsx and Prepar3d use the same engine as Lockheed Martin purchased it from Microsoft back in 2009. The missions in FSX aren't accessible. The main difference between fsx and prepar3d is that one is marketed as something for academic training and the other isn't. I personally use prepar3d although some people prefer fsx because it is lighter on the CPU and ram usage, and all the menues can be accessed in flight using object nav. You have to use OCR in p3d. As for multi player, there's Vatsim. I'd get good at flight simming first before you jump into that because it's meant to be as realistic as possible. I'd also study proper air traffic control communication, and procedures.

Re: Talking Flight Monitor: an accessibility add-on for flight simulation

Hi.I have listened to the first video, and I've subscribed to the Youtube channel. This sounds really interesting, and I'll follow this with huge interest.I have a few questions since I've not really been motivated to try any flight sim before. So I'm quite new to all this. I have only experience with Eurofly and 3D Velocity. Thanks a lot to demonstrate all the advanced stuff about a flying simulator. Now I finally understand how advanced a flying simulator is:1. What are the differences between Microsofts flying simulator and Prepar3d? I'm not sure on what I should start out with to give it a try. I don't mind paying.2. In Microsoft flying simulator I have read about tasks to complete like training and other tasks. I don't know if there are any storyline. Will TFM work with those tasks and make them accessible?3. is any kind of multiplayer doable and accessible?4. Would it be worth it to buy a flight controller?

Talking Flight Monitor: an accessibility add-on for flight simulation

Hi All,I realized recently that I don't think I've posted here about Talking Flight Monitor.Talking Flight Monitor (TFM) is an open source accessibility add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, or Lockheed Martin Prepar3d. This software is designed to allow a totally blind person to enjoy flight simulation. The software has had some very limited testing with the new Flight Simulator 2020, but bare in mind that there are still serious accessibility issues with Flight Simulator 2020. It is not recommended for use at this time for blind players.TFM is under constant development. We just started a Youtube channel where you can find videos about how to use the product. We have one video up now, with more coming. The project is written by myself and Andy Borka, who some may have seen on the Blind Programming mailing lists. The Youtube channel can be found at:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJy9gM … vww/videosI would encourage anyone who is interested to subscribe to the channel. Once we get 196 subscribers, we can get a more friendly URL for the channel.More info on the project can be found on our website at:http://www.talkingflightmonitor.netThis project has been under development for almost two years now, and many people in the blind flight simming community are using it.
