Re: Taming the beast that is FooBar2000

@6 Cool, thanks for pointing all that out. That at least sands off the roughest edges so I can figure out the rest. I was pasting in podcast links by hand because I couldn't find OPML import, and the one long list made the whole process so much less appealing.

Re: Taming the beast that is FooBar2000

It's possible to separate podcasts into their own playlists, Go into view>Podcatcher Feed Manager, find the name of the podcast, right click it and select Create playlist (1 item). This will separate the podcast into a playlist called Podcatcher: podcast name, though the main podcatcher playlist will still exist. The component also supports exporting to and importing from OPML files, though the command is somewhat hidden. You can get to it by pressing alt+shift+f.

Hmm, as for podcasting, you might like Nathan's Luna RSS reader. Being that it's specifically built for listening to podcasts, it will hopefully fit your work better. Check it out at https://www.nathantech.net/nathantechsoftware.php

Re: Taming the beast that is FooBar2000

Cool, thanks folks. I somehow missed the quick setup, but it looks like the configuration screen lets me revisit it. I've done so, and now I actually have my music behaving how I'd like. I'll disable the classic UI, which I only went with as per a recommendation in another thread. The issue I'm hitting now is with podcasts. I've installed the podcatcher addon, and they feel like a bit of an afterthought. They're kind of plunked in a list alongside my music, and while I only have one added, it isn't displayed in a tree or anything. So I suspect I'll just get a long list of tracks from all podcasts intermingled. Maybe I'm wrong about that. Ugh, I hate this trend toward ecosystems, where I'm expected to just subscribe to my podcasts on a platform vs. carrying around my subscriptions in OPML. Get off my damned lawn, Spotify!Anyhow, it could be that I shouldn't be using FooBar for podcatching, which is fine. Different tools for different jobs, and all. Thanks for at least helping me get my music displaying in a sane structure, and I'll gradually play around with more settings over time.

Re: Taming the beast that is FooBar2000

If you select the first one in the list in the Quick setup view thing, it will have a playlist view, and a library view which you can drill into by artist, album, genre, year, and folder structure.

Re: Taming the beast that is FooBar2000

@nolan, Hey! So I'm one of those people that happen to love or hate Foobar, so I'll try to help you out where I can.About the classic UI, I actually didn't know that was even a thing, so I've just gone with the standard. It honestly works fine, so perhaps switch back?About the view and layout, I'm pretty sure you can have the quick setup do it all for you. If you've already gone past that, you can go to Display>Default User Interface in Prefs. Otherwise, enable editing in the UI. From there, you can click on empty parts, which triggers a list of UI elements that you can add. This process is a little finicky, so drop me a PM if you're having trouble. In terms of general tweaks, here we go!I have a treeview of playlists. The component is Playlist Organizer.I have non-global keyboard shortcuts for pitch/rate, and equalizer.Cursor Follows Playback is checked, but not the reverse. This prevents Foobar from automatically playing in the current focused playlist (even if the current playlist isn't the one it was originally playing from).Grabbed the YouTube component, so I can listen to YouTube right in Foobar! That's what I can think of right now.

Taming the beast that is FooBar2000

Taming the beast that is FooBar2000

I've actually tried FooBar2000 in the past and didn't like it much, but since enough of you have recommended it, I wanted to know how you've tamed it? In particular:I'm told to switch to the classic UI. I install the addon, but whereas before my podcasts view was a scrollable list, the classic UI makes it non-interactible via the keyboard. Is there something I need to change to fix that, or should I not be using this UI? Essentially, I hear what episode ostensibly has focus, but arrowing does nothing to change that. When FooBar opens, it lands on a playlists view. I don't do playlists. If I want to listen to something, I prefer to select the album or artist and play that way. I see the albums view, but essentially this means that whenever I want to listen to something, I need to navigate to that view. Is there some way to make that the default? And, in general, other configuration tweaks are welcome. Honestly, as is, this is worse than just about any Linux music player I've tried, and the only things that made *those* worse was that some weren't accessible at all. Maybe there are some config tweaks and addons that make this an absolute powerhouse, which is why I'm asking. And I'd rather not go full invisible UI and hotkey-only for now. I like that Windows has more global hotkeys, but between NVDA/Keepass/TWBlue, plus retraining decades of muscle memory, I'm kind of at hotkey overload this week. Thanks.
