I almost wonder if something has gone wrong, like the manufacturer has some facility for encrypting the drive, and some internal device for giving access, this theoretical device, which is essentially a digital key may have malfunctioned. Re: Unexpected "Enter hdd user password" Hey @CAE,your data should be safe, I mean, I don't know how your speciffic BIOS model protects data but anyway.Get yourself a Linux boot image, try booting it and when you manage to enter the system try the following in the terminalsudo mount /dev/sda3 /mnt.Then do something likecd /mntlsand check if your data are intact.Then copy it to somewhere safe and then you can start experimentingOh,and i it's an EFI-powered machine, you can try mounting the EFI partition and try to reset the password from there, however I don't recommend it. It's also about a Toshiba, and not sure it'd generalize to a Samsung. Also, it's kinda extreme, as it involves removing the hdd, booting from a CD / USB, and re-inserting the HDD after the system is past the point where it would be asking for a password.
