Re: What Gaming Headsets are people Using?

So, for those with surround sound headphones, how does the surround sound in the driver/headset hardware/Windows app compare to stuff like Windows Sonic, Boom 3D, and all that? Oh and some ... Razar thing... I had the Logitech 430 headphones, which were really good with the surround sound, but it was really finicky if it would work. I remember having to reinstall the driver through the INF file all the time to get the thing to work. Now I just use this Turtle Beach Recom headset, for like $59 it isn't bad at all. It doesn't come with surround sound itself, but it does have plenty of base, and it has an XBox mode, which you can use with PC/mobile as well, and a PS4 mode. You can tell which mode it is in, or rather, if it's in the right mode, if the sound is louder than in the other mode. I think. I hope. Ugh I could have been doing this wrong all along. Anyways, it's pretty good, except it has to charge for some reason. I thought it may be Bluetooth as well, but nope, just uses power for... The Base? Lights? I don't know. But it sounds good, works well for about 16 hours, and sounds good plugged into my XBox one controller's headphone port since my laptop's one is very loose, lol.

Someone mentioned the steelseries arctis line in here. How is it in terms of accessibility wise? I want to make sure I'm getting what I'm paying for... the arctis pro looks great, but how usable is the game DAC? Or the Engine software? From what I was able to see, the app UI is HTML. Does that apply when a headset is connected as well? The Arctis 7 and 9, the 9 which recently just came out, lok great as well.

Hey!I am going good with a plantronics rig 500 Headset. it is so great when its coming to soround Sound, it supports 7.1 Sound and even has a very good own Sound Card, which even works good with daw's such as reaper. It is cathegorized as a gaming Headset. But well, I suggest you using another microphone then the Headsets, cause it is, well, Looping your Audio through the mic, even if you dont want it.

I'm managing with a Skullcandy Cassette headset. For a 30 dollar headset its pretty great. Amazing bass quality and the clarity is just amazing. Definitely recommended if you don't have the money to afford better headsets, but if you are looking for a headset that has both wired and wireless capabilities, long battery life, nice solid bass, and treble, Skullcandy Cassette is my recommendation.

1@18 You can fix that with these two programs. Equalizer APO attaches to a surround sound capable device and lets you configure it how you like. HeSuVi Is how you configure it. It has a bunch of presets and you can dig down further and configure it to your heart's desire.

Re: What Gaming Headsets are people Using?

@15I never use virtual surround - it always ends up sounding like a fake reverb put on all of the audio, making things sometimes even harder to hear.  But other than that, the audio on these things is great in my opinion, with everything from just standard speech to things like the Wolfenstein: The New Order soundtrack it certainly packs a punch. As for having console input and commentating, depending on how you wire it in, that'd work.  If you were to use your 3.5mm input to run from your controller into the headset, you could use the dongle to have it also communicate wirelessly with your PC, and the stream wouldn't hear the latter either (other than very small amounts of screen reader bleed potentially), meaning you should be able to read the chat as well.Happy to assist with further questions if I can.

Re: What Gaming Headsets are people Using?

I don't know, I've owned a couple of headsets which sounded great out of the box. Either that, or I got pickier over the years lol. The Microsoft Life Chat, of all things, really impressed me when I had it. I also had a Rosewill one which, once the drivers were installed, was super clear and had great bass. The mic wasn't anything to write home about, but that, at least, seems to be universal, headset mics have always been lacking for the most part.

Re: What Gaming Headsets are people Using?

@10, how is the overall sound and esepcially the virtual surround? It's nice to know it can be used simultaneously both wireless and wired. I was hoping to use whichever one I got to receive output directly from the console and then commentate with the built in mic at the same time.. I'm assuming this works? Starting a stream is starting to feel like more of a process than i thought.

Re: What Gaming Headsets are people Using?

I would not recommend the HyperX Cloud. I just purchased one a few days ago, and will be returning it. The virtual surround is pretty awful, and without that enabled, things sound kind of flat and blah, and it certainly doesn't have enough bass for my liking. You also can't adjust the mic volume using Windows, you need to adjust it on the headset's control box itself. I could live with that if it actually boosted to a reasonable level, but it doesn't. So yeah, it's going back to Amazon.Jayde, does the Revolver you talked about suffer from any of these issues? If not, I may look into that, but if this is a HyperX problem in general, I'd like to know that so I can switch brands.

Re: What Gaming Headsets are people Using?

I like that. Also the mic actually sounds halfway decent; I know someone who has one and they sound good for being on wireless. I know the thing supports DTS out of the box, which is a plus. Hopefully it still has mappable G keys like my old G930. I'm also hoping that they've improved the mute  on boom up since that time, as it's bad on the G930.Do you have a rough ballpark figure on battery life? I get a full day of hard use out of my Void Pro if I disable the RGB lighting. Which isn't as easy as it sounds, owing to the fact that the software is really not screen reader friendly.I am also wondering if the mic will work when it's operated via the patch cable. This is of course, provided that the jack it's plugged into can accept that.Even without such a thing, I'm sure they make a breakaway cable that goes from female 3.5mm TRRS to two male 3.5mm TRS or whatever standard mics use. So it'd be interesting to find out if it even supports that.

Re: What Gaming Headsets are people Using?

Logitech G935 headset here, in conjunction with some other tech for streaming.  But I use this as my all round headset as it has not only wireless connectivity for PCs, but also 3.5mm support for things like phones or external soundcards (meaning you wouldn't need a hardware mixer if you don't want one/don't have the room.  Additionally though, both the wireless and 3.5mm inputs can be used simultaneously and the volume control is easy to work with. The software, though I've never needed to use it to modify my settings etc, is reasonably accessible, though I won't speak to the advanced side of things.Oh and if you're worried about misplacing the dongle, it stores away *inside* the headset's left ear cup, meaning that if you're careful to put it in the headset when you need to unplug it, you'll never need to be concerned as to where it's gone.

Logitech G432 here. Not the fanciest model, but more than good enough for me. Hell, I can't even hear the difference between songs in Flac and in low quality MP3, so if anything, these are more expensive than I deserve. Excellent sound quality for my standards. Tight enough fit that they feel stable on my head, but comfy enough that I can wear them for hours at a time without any discomfort. Very accessible volume control, behind the left ear. Ear cups are made out of a smooth faux-leather, and can be taken off for cleaning. And the microphone sounds crisp and clean, enough so that even people who care much more about sound quality have complimented it.Of course, it's an older model, so there is a newer one out now, G433. And there are more expensive options available if you need something more and have the cash.
