Re: anyone remember the wastes

The best advice I can give is try them and see, really, discovery is all part of the fun in the wastes. That's why it's good to put points into the extra skills perk, at least when you've got enough in regrowth and escape artist to be going on with.I also do wish the game would save, though I sort of rather like the permadeath feature and the fact that the world is so wonderfully randomly unfair .

For those wanting to grab the Mush Client Pack, visit https://nightvista.net/theWastesPack, and it's original thread at https://forum.audiogames.net/topic/2455 … date-pack/  I may take a look at that soon.

Re: anyone remember the wastes

And in honour of the wastes here is my inventively named character. he actually didn't do too badly, until he drank the wrong vial and got skull rot, then drank another wrong vial and got a tumour of the leg, at which point his leg was so painful he kicked a neuclear bomb! it didn't go well . Btw, yes i did expect kicking a bomb would have that effect, but since skull rot meant no more advancing stats, the game was not being fun at that stage, and I'm still not sure if there was ever a way to cure your various radiation induced woes. going to die the Wasteland Rover travelled through 100 places in the wasteland, he died at level 4 and the last thing he saw was a An Unexploded Nuke in the region known as Fugitivesdirt Mountaingoing to die travelled through Wrennie Mountainham into the little patch of wastes known as Great Junkdirt Barrens, from there he passed into the little patch of wastes known as Markssprings, from there he passed into the far expanding wastes of Ghoulton Craterstown, from there he fled into the sizeable wastes of Fugitivesdirt Mountain Where his journey ended.---SKILLSHealth               - 60Strength             - 7Agility              - 4Intelligence         - 15Lockpick             - 13-OTHER STATS-Times Mutated        - 5Mutation Level       - 9Money                - 213.469Kills                - 0Regions Cleared      - 3Dungeons Cleared     - 5Settlements Visited  - 0CURRENT WEAPON---Weapon Name          - 'Adventurers Chance' the Blood-Silver Sawblade on a StickWeapon Damage        - 140Weapon Durability    - 139Weapon Value         - 720--                       Rest In Peace going to die(built in version 0.8.6.6)

Re: anyone remember the wastes

I've not tried the mushclient thing either myself, the last version I saw was the one with the anniversary pack. Actually just gave the game another go, and it's awesome! I'm remembering a few things. First, the most important thing with deciding where to go is region danger level, since the higher the level, the more extreme everything gets. Obviously since clearing regions gives xp, the smaller regions are a better bet, but if it's a choice between a large safe region or a shorter dangerous one, I'll usually take the safe path.Second, for some odd reason, you always start with 3 agility, and 5 in intelligence and strength, so I usually put the first few points into upping agility, then distribute evenly. For skills, escape artist is the single most important skill and the one I always go for on the first level, , since there is no question that I always will run into monsters that I can't handle, indeed a good rule of thumb I use, is, until I have an uba weapon or some awesome mutation powers, to flee from anything that has more hp than me, since most often the more hp something has, the more damage it is likely to do. When I've got a point in escape artist, I then start putting points into mad skills, to up the amount of skill points I get. Then I go for raising escape artist, putting points into healing, and putting more points into mad skills so I can play around with some of the other skills, which range from fun ones like mysterious man, to really useful stuff like raising loot percentages and avoiding any damage from mountains and storms. in general I find if I can make it to level 4 or so, I'll survive for a while, though of course there is always the possibility of running into something amazingly nasty. With loot I tend to go for scrapping weapons I don't need, just to keep the inventory tidy, and because upgrading or fixing weapons with scrap is fun. I don't remember if Wastelander fixed the mining cheat, namely that you could just hammer the keys and mine like a demon to get all the gems and money you want, as well as raising your xp level quite a lot. that is one  way to survive, though it does feel a bit of a cheat. Actually it's nice to pick the game up again, even if I do wind up dying horribly. Awesome as warsim is, and as much fun as I've had with that game, I do sort of wonder what might have happened if the source code for the wastes didn't go bye bye, and Wastelander could've added in some of the things he was planning to. admitedly, some of his plans as I remember like owning your own town complete with freeing or trading in slaves and warring upon other factions ended up making it into warsim, but other things like taking on quests, progressing through seasons, getting farming skills  and maybe having your own pet would've been unique to the wastes.

Re: anyone remember the wastes

I've not tried the mushclient thing either myself, the last version I saw was the one with the anniversary pack. It's been a while since I played, but my usual strategy was to put the first couple of perk points into the perk that made fleeing easier, since there are lots of nasty monsters, then put more into the skills that gave you more perk points . After that I could be free to experiment as I wished and try things out. For what regions to go through, the higher level the region, the more dangerous it is, this also counts hazards like storms, radiation etc, so I tended to try and stick to as low as possible, particularly since some bad events could raise the danger level if I wasn't careful. Actually, it's been a while since I played the wastes myself, methinks I'll try remedying that right now!
