Hmmm. I still have all those old dos games in my collection. I've kept every game I've ever purchased going all the way back into the 80s. I might have to drag out Quake and give this a look see. It looks interesting.

I downloaded the quake and audio quake setup files from audiogame archives the other day but still can't play. My pc says it is downloading files needed but then the download stops so yeah, wish I could play though

According to the documentation audio quake is a mod of an existing quake install, what this means is if you only have the shareware version of quake installed, that's all you'll be able to play. While the source code for the engine is open sourced, the content, level packs, models, etc. is not. There are a few copies floating around but you can buy it off steam or gog.com.

Fortunately however quake 1 was released as open source some years ago, although it still seems to be on sale on steam and gog.com? Weird. Well whatever, there are copies of it floating around i'm sure you can find, or maybe you can get the required files off the quake github repository.
