Re: can't install linux in normal ubuntu, there is the super+m key that shows the notifications list. Unlike mate, you can act upon them, that side of it is accessible. What is not that accessible is the desktop, actually, it's not accessible at all, it's like that install as superuser thing @1 mentioned. Orca keys don't work, you have to use only system shortcuts to open an app, like terminal or the dash to search for things and then open an app, doesn't matter which. Then, everything will work, with the unplesent side effect that desktop icons will not be available. Well, not much of a loss, since there's almost nothing there by default.About the installing more voices thing, I honestly DK how to do it, usually one just clicks through the setup like on windows, with the desktop ocr package configured properly. But most of the time, however, the setup will refuse to complete because of some .net component that's, obviously, not installed on wine. Whenever I try to install it, I get errors and so on... in a neverending cycle. For example, I got failed to get random numbers to initialise python when running a software written in python, but with windows specific modules like pywin32 and packaged in an exe with pyinstaller perhaps. For games with more complex requirements, researching the errors spat out by terminal should give you a good idea of what you need. Re: can't install linux It's not exactly a solution to your problems, but I've just installed Debian with Mate with little-to-no problems. I used Etcher to burn the Netinst CD onto a Cruiser Fit USB stick. I used the iso that doesn't have "edu" in the filename.When you get the boot menu (there's a beep if your computer's down for that sort of thing), press s for speech, then hit enter. It should start speaking (very slowly and quietly) after that.If it's English you're after, I think it's option 20 from the first massively long menu. You can also hit 1 for no localisation.When you get the the task selection bit, select the options for Desktop, and Mate along with whatever else you want.HTH. You might also want to give accessible coconut a spin, it's running a very slightly older version of ubuntu I believe, and it's possible this is a bug that's arisen recently that simply has yet to be fixed. There was a topic posted here fairly recently regarding somebody else having this exact issue on a VM.Disabling secure boot is just a good thing to do in general. Weather or not it'll help in this particular situation it's hard to be sure, but you will definitely, definitely thank me later. If anything it's generally a good idea to have legacy enabled for compatibility purposes, since not all operating systems work absolutely perfectly with UEFI. I'd recommend turning that back on.Have you also disabled secure boot? I've heard of that causing all manner of issues, despite the fact that ubuntu theoretically does have support for it. I'd imagine that your device's manufacturer slapped a custom version of UEFI in there.
