lol, I guess we should make a potato peeler society because that appears to help with many many things. If its pineapple going on pizza, I would love to do it all myself, the entire process. It will be time well spent haha. And yeah, well one thing is dependency on things, which I agree can be just bullcrap, but then again... is it really really worth it to have that many gadgets?I am happy with what I have so far, so we will see.but thanks, I have learned things from these replies, as usualand yeah, it boosts morale up to know that sighted folks have almost the same, if not other troubles with things lol, so I no longer feel guilty when being lazy with say, ordering Croissants from the local bakeries or the frozen ones I can just pop into whatever, instead of making them on my own from scratch

@8Sure. I think Claire uses something like a half cup when she's doing it, and that's shared between 2 of us.Don't forget though, the recommended calorie intake per day is over 10 times that much, so it's still on the lower end, particularly if you're not having much other calorie dense stuff throughout the day.

For myself, I don't know if the infrequent times I eat pineapple justifies the purchase of a pineapple machine, though the amount of efort required to peel it might be a factor there.

Re: food handling

yeah... though adding peanut butter to vegetables is a new thing for me, I shall try this some day for a really surprising treat or something.Apple pie is also relatively easy to do:1. Put sliced, red  apples with a bit of butter and heat them in a pan or skillet, add cinnamon2. After about 10 minutes, Use a wooden spoon to chop them up, the idea is to make sort of a sauce.3. You could use bread crumble and just top it all and let it cook for a bit more , or4. Get that out, use the oven and use cupcake shaped molds or whatever else, (I know they nowadays sell the dish with the crust already in). Then let it cool. and enjoy. Put some whipped cream on top, or peanut butter if you dare lol.I was thinking of getting those famous pineapple peeling gadgets or machines but again, having too many gadgets just makes you dependent I guess.

Re: food handling

My wife does this amazing thing with Cauliflower. She doesn't measure stuff, so just kind of taste and guess, but:Mix soy sauce, water, peanut butter, and spices into a paste. Break a cauliflower into bits, and toss the sauce with it, until the cauliflower is completely coated.Add in whatever vegetables you like: We use mushrooms and kale primarily. I like to add Gnocchi, although Claire's not as much of a fan.Make sure everything's clarted in thick sticky sauce, then bang it into a pyrex dish.Cover the whole affair with tinfoil (unless you want it seriously crispy), and bung it into the oven.Towards the end, take off the tin foil to let it crisp up.Seriously lovely, and relatively low calorie.

Re: food handling

yeah, I really like that with few ingredients you can really have something going. Its sort of a staple here to put the sauce I mentioned on pretty much anything, including scrambled eggs. You can make your own version of an arepa, which is like a fat tortilla we have here if you get oil, masarepa (precooked, ground corn flour ) water, salt and sugar. You don't need anything else. Just boil water (2 cups), then throw  that all in (one cup of flour, and it depends how sweet or salty you want them so you can try putting a big salt spoon and a smaller sugar one and taste), wait for it to cool some and it will form a dough. Good thing is, if its too dry, or too wet, you can always add more ingredients to balance it so there is really no way anyone could really mess them up.  stir that up with a spoon, become a child who plays with dough and using your your hands and roll that into fist sized balls. Then flatten the dough balls you just made (quarter an inch thick, or 1 cm, or whatever you prefer) and put them on the palm of your hand. Now, rotate the dough with the other hand and place the thumb (using the hand that holds) on the border of the dough, to give the shape and contour. Whatever the technique , Basically you want to make disks. Then you could just oil a pan and cook them (3 minutes per side is just about enough), or I bet you could even use an air fryer. This is their simplest form, but you could also fill them up. To do this you get whatever topping you want once you have the disks made, then fold them and flatten them again. Toppings could be endless: cheese (grated is best but small mozzarella cubes work because it will melt anyway), or you could also use ground or pulled apart beef, chicken breast or pork could be good fillings too.I normally like to make them a bit sweeter and fill them up with mozzarella, as you could accompany them with hot chocolate anytime, or just make them as a side dish for any other meal. They will last for about 5 days in the fridge after being cooked so you can consume them at pretty much any time of the day.Note that:1. you could vary the type of precooked flour but massarepa is the better, more nutritious and easier flour to use.2. The dough should be warm when you massage it. You could make some dough and store it in the fridge as well, for later use.I will definitely try to get and slice that pineapple. There is a good thing to do with pineapple, stolen right out of brazilian rodicios (cookouts):Get a slice of it and put it on a pan, cook it a bit,  and top it with  just a bit of powdered cinnamon. Works great as a sort of side dish.

ok so pineapple is easy.  Slice off the crown and bottom, then use a large knife to slice off the skin on the sides. I used cans recently because I was kind of lazy to cut up a pineapple, but a freshly cut one tastes alot better if you do it that way.

If you want sauces, a basic teriyaki sauce is soy sauce, sake, mirin, and rice vinegar.  A basic pad Thai sauce is also generally 4 ingredients or so depending on the recipe, if you can get your hands on tamarind extract.I like to do pineapple juice plus bits from a can, or even just fresh pineapple in a pan.  Add some sake and mirin, touch of fish sauce, bit of garlic, pinch of cayenne pepper, sometimes a touch of rice vinegar, and sugar to taste. Boil.Since it's pandemic time my pandemic cooking has consisted of uber eats and mountains of apathy, or I'd have more ideas.

Re: food handling

lol we need to seriously get creative with stuff. Chopping and apple is quite easy, you just make a vertical, firm slicing from ones side, then turn it and do the same in 4 sides, then chop these big pieces right down the middle and you will get slices. I also tried this particular pan for pancakes, and I am addicted now. Basically its two pans (or think of it as if you had taken two plates and put one on top of another when you want to cover food) with a long-ish rubber shaft. You can flip whatever you put inside. It definitely made things way easier for me.I will get a pineapple then and try doing this, but I don't have a bread knife.. just yet. Though i feel accomplished now, because the way i had described my scrambled eggs before in another post has been just really consistent and versatile and there is no need for a microwave. Also, there is a traditional latin american sauce you can put into mostly anything, including pasta, chicken, whatever. Its the result of indigenous nativity and spanish colonization and consist of blended onions and tomatoes. Really, that's its. Slice a tomato into 4 big pieces similar to how I described the apple above, (remove the bit that has a hole in the center though), take the first skin or layer of the onion off, then cut a quarter of that onion, and then throw it all into the blender and add a teaspoon of salt. You can taste it after its fully blended. Then add some butter in a skillet or pan that has a lid, and just a bit of water (a quarter of a cup or less) and cover it up, let that boil. You'll know when its ready because it will sound (loud boiling bubbles) and will smell great. Then you can put that on top of whatever you want seasoned.

Re: food handling

You can "top and tail" pineapple. Then it's just a case of digging out the bits you like. You could probably use something like a bread knife to saw it into massive rings, then cut the skin and outer layers of harder flesh away too.I actually prefer the stuff in cans, just because you are guaranteed the best bit when you get the rings. Plus, whatever cyrup they can it with is seriously tasty haha.

food handling

Ok, so I am sorry to have to get a new topic out on this, but food handling strikes again. My first question is: how in the world do you peel and prepare a freaking pineapple?but not everything is questions, I do have a fruit tip too:you can use a potato peeler on mangos, to take the skin off if you don't like eating it like me, then chop it up just fine. It works, perfectly. its a charm.
