Re: my laptop starts alone About laptop waking up, i had the same issue.Just check if you have planned tasks in the task sheduler, and check the microsot windows section in which you can find windows update and windows deender.I don't remember how i did, but just google about the problem. Re: my laptop starts alone Hmmm windows will do this from time to time if it needs to do something, an update, a virus scan, something else.I usually turn it right off at night.However if with all settings set if it continues to do that the only time I had this happen way back in dos, was just before the power module died. Probably hurts the screen and battery sense i leave it plugged in as well but i know i'm getting a new laptop soon and its like 7 years old anyway. Lol, on this very computer, back when i used jaws (this was like 3 or 4 years ago) i was sleeping, and my Mom told me that if i used my computer late at night i would be grounded, you know, normal 9 to 10 year old stuff. Well, letsjust say whenever my computer decided to start itself (kind of creepy on windows 7 anyway) to have jaws start rambling, counting, while doing its little progress notifications that are as predictable as a trasn can with only one wheel, well, i was pretty scared that i would be grounded for doing nothing wrong. Re: my laptop starts alone This is weird but not uncommon. It happens with me too. I just make sure that after it wakes up, it goes to sleep soon. So my power management settings are like sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity when plugged in and 2 minutes on battery power. That way, I don't waist lot of battery. Windows updates are really stupid, because if you're sleeping and suddenly hear the mac's startup sound at full volume and a tts saying:"Working on updates x % complete don't turn off your computer" several times. Re: my laptop starts alone Ok, from some research, try to do the following. Open control panel, find power, and choose the option that allows you to change advanced settings. There, you will find a tree view with various options for your current plan. Find and expand the section sleep, and in there find the section allow wake timers. Expand it, and you will see on battery, which should be disabled. If you go down, you will find plugged in, important wake timers only. Press the right arrow, and you will be in a combo box, choose disable, press ok and that should hopefully prevent this. I am not sure what is up with that, I thought at first that it happens when Windows wants to install updates, but it seems to be some other Windows 10 nonsense that Microsoft can wake your PC up whenever they feel like it should be doing something.
