Re: raspberry pi talking images

F123Light is really weird. Is this supposed to be a really basic operating system? What version of Linux is this running? What is this weird TTS voice I hear? It's not eSpeak. Can I enable SSH?Okay, so this is just plain stupid! The menu doesn't contain very many applications. After opening the file manager, I discovered that there are many more applications including Libre Office that are not listed on the menu. Why is this? Getting to them isn't very intuitive either, because you must use the go menu in the file manager. Also, what's up with Orca on here? None of my settings will save, and I can't open the preferences window with the Orca modifier and space. How do I get my settings to save? They reset when I change applications. Oh, and how do you get rid of those annoying beeps when switching apps? This is pretty cool, in that I have a talking Raspberry Pi 4. However, it seems to be half-baked. There are so many things I can't seem to do. For instance, I must use alsamixer in the terminal to change the volume. Ubuntu Mate is much easier to use.

Re: raspberry pi talking images

Well, after reading all the posts here, I can give you a link to the F123 Light talking images, available for the Pi 3 and Pi4. These images talk right out of the box, are running Orca in the gui, though not mate, and has a graphical terminal that acts like the console which uses Fenrir. It's documentation is out of date, but there's a mumble server where the testing team hangs out at various times. The console can be enabled though after the first boot with a little hackery. The mumble server if you've got a mumble client is:mumble.stormdragon.tkThe link for the images is:http://public.f123.orgSome of the documentation is still quite usefull as the things refered to are still there and can be accessed from the gui terminal in much the same way.Cheers and have fun!

Re: raspberry pi talking images

Can you post a recording of how you set up the pi from downloading the os, to flushing the card to installing the os? I actually run a kind of server on my py and this recording, besides giving me a clue about what could be the problem, it can also guide newbies in setting the pi up. To be optimal for everyone, I advise you do it in realtime, no pauses in the recording, exactly how it happens.

not really. If it is the case, why raspberry foundation would distribute raspbian desktop images? And why people would make gui distros at all.And a little off topic question, is there any company that makes cases for pi?I mean, you send them a request for example.I want a case with a tiny qwerty keyboard, a speaker, and a all ports that are on pi accessible from the case. Then they just make it.I mean, that was just an example. Also how do you put in and out the SD cart? Its fucking hard, they could just have made it so you click it in and it pops in, and then you click it again and it pops out.Now i need to always ask someone to put it out of my pi

Hmmm, is there a screen reader that you could use on the command line? If so, will it work with the default rraspberry OS? If so, could you just not dump the GUI and just use the command line for everything? Just wondering. If I knew how to get said screen and do away with the GUI, and knew how to make a image, then I might be able to make you said talking image. Of course, I have a raspberry pi 0w that I access over SSH that I am using for my own tasks that requires a computer that I could just shove into a corner and forget.
