In regards to the original topic, everyone pretty much explained it very well. I use it often when downloading using Youtube DL if it's a longer download and the CMD window constantly updates to show progress. To shut that up and know when the unwanted information ends I turn it on, then turn it off after the beeps finish. One example is if you're doing a long backup/copy/archival operation in a console window, and you want to know when it's done, or you just want to keep tabs on the progress of the operation to make sure it doesn't get stuck somewhere. In other words, you want to know when NVDA would be speaking, but you don't care what it is saying.One feature I'd love to see would be the ability to use screen review commands during beeps mode, and have screen review actually speak. This would let you check the progress of something on a one-time basis. Re: speech mode beeps for NVDA Basically it's most useful when you don't care about what's being said, but just want to know when it's done. Apart from programming contexts as Camlorn described, it's also useful in some other cases, such as scrolling to find the comments on a YouTube video. When you go down to the bottom of the page and go up to find the comments, as they don't appear right away, the page will scroll and you'll get a stream of video titles as part of the up next playlist that are read automatically. I find beeps speech mode rather useful here, as I can just enable it and wait for the beeps to stop rather than constantly hit control to stop the announcements, though I've lowered the pitch of the beep to 440Hz as I find the default pitch of 10,000 to be rather unpleasant. Sometimes I have something scrolling for minutes at a time and all I really care about is when it's done, plus I'm on a call or something and need to be talking to/paying attention to someone else. Speech mode beeps is very useful then.it's also useful when there's so much text that NVDA can't read it all before it finishes, because without speech mode beeps you're pounding on control.
