Re: starmourn, space/ground mud

Ok, I decided to give this game a try.I really didn't know what any of the classes are so just picked one at random. In the intro bit, I chose the option to get a new starship and that's where I've started having problems.I was being taught to fly the ship and everything is so spammy, it's nearly impossible.I really want to get rid of, or modify, the prompt.I think that maybe I should have chosen a different option from the beginning, but now I'm not sure if I can restart or create a new character.Any starting tips?

Agreed with the last two posts. I did try this one out ages ago and liked it. The world building is great, and it's a unique setting. I loved the intro bit and got up to a certain point then thought okay...this is interesting but..

Re: starmourn, space/ground mud

Agreed, @12.I say we don't add social sounds to a Starmourn pack, however since you really can't do them over channels to the spammy extent that you can with, say, CR, they could be limited.I really like the sounds for the BGM, the ship sounds, etc. I don't use social sounds in those other games nor spam socials over channels. also, a game doesn't have to have both IC and ooc socials.

Re: starmourn, space/ground mud

I'm struggling here, not because starmourn isn't a good game--it's great, but because there is a part of me genuinely concerned that, with the right sound packs and scripts, it will have the potential to go the way of Miriani, a game that is so full of twinkism and general player quirkiness that it just wasn't fun to play anymore. One of the things that I have always appreciated about IRE games is their atmosphere and world building. Their writers and designers are top-notch, and this has brought in some incredibly high-caliber roleplayers. You will not see people randomly taking pot shots at one another or performing channel socials because it's fun and they like the sounds. You will not see general channels, as a general rule, flooded with discussions of guide dogs and screen readers. People for whom English is a fluent language write with proper grammar and spelling. Systems are generally well-balanced because they're not awash in players who can spend 8 to 10 hours a day playing. Remember Slipgate Legacy? Yeah me too.I want the player base to grow. I want more people to team up with and compete against. I hope, though, that people who take a look at Starmourn take it seriously.I realize this makes me sound elitist, but at 12:30 in the morning, I'm just going to own that. The staff of Starmourn have put in the time and dedication to craft a world and systems that are complex, engaging, and entertaining. If players are looking for a place to blow stuff up, collect babies and stuffed animals, and generally be slap-happy, Miriani, and to a lesser extent, Cosmic Rage, will be perfect for you. If you want to be a part of a community of roleplay enthusiasts, though, and you're willing to put in the time and effort to create a character and stick to it, you might be at home here.

Re: starmourn, space/ground mud

Ok, let me disclaim this entire post by stating that I work on Starmourn as a coder. I am not being paid to write this post, but I do want to make that affiliation known before people assume I'm marketing or whatever. While IRE games are traditionally pretty pay-to-win-ish, Starmourn , at present at least, has quite a bit less of that going on.While there is certainly PVP combat, and your combat does get better when you learn new abilities, which takes lessons, which you can buy, there are quite a few more things to do. You can definitely build up a strong character in a lot of ways without spending a dime, although paying supports the game and allows for new stuff to get added way quicker. There's pretty regular RP events, as well as things like hacking, commerce, spaceship combat, trade skills etc outside of PVP combat which is all quite doable, and the game does not actually have a paywall, you can play for free just fine, although most players do tend to at least buy a thing or two to support the game's creators if nothing else. Paying mostly gets you credits which you can either convert into lessons or use to buy promo items like cute pets, fancy interactive items and such. To my knowledge you can't actually buy better combat gear or the like, but I might be wrong on that, I never looked into it.It's true that some things aren't accessible at present, though. Most things are, but ship combat is hard right now. We're working on that, and I will certainly announce it when we have more to say on that topic.I absolutely agree that pay-to-win games are no fun, but like another post pointed out, I do get why MUDs almost have to do things like this in order to stay afloat. Heck, Alter Aeon has credits you can buy for extra practices and such as well. Building games like this is hard, maintaining them is hard and expanding them is hard. I've paid for MUDs in the past and probably will again for the same reason I pay for audiogames. Even if I think a game's price might be a bit much, if it means the developer can keep making games, I consider it more of  a donation than anything else when I get their game. Given that MUDs give me many, many more hours of fun than any audiogame ever has, I don't mind shelling out a couple bucks on hem now and again. Lol I've played Avalon: the Legend Lives and even been subscribed to it for a while. Want a pay-to-win game with a paywall? Go give that one a try :-)

Agreed with 2. It's not a bad game, but it's pay to win systems, plus a lack of accessibility for certain things when I played really turned me off.

starmourn, space/ground mud

So this mud is rather cool with a pretty interactive storyline in the begining that'll make you feel like you're playing with a human. If you don't think about them being all npcs.Anyways, it is a space mud from ironrealms with 5 classes and. above 5 races(forgot the exact number.) Each class is actually pretty different, e.g, with an engineer class you build your own tools such as bots that patrol through set rooms or bombs, tripwires etcetera, a b e a s t class(BioInterfacing Exoskeletal Assault Suit Tech/Technician ,depending on whether you're referring to the suit or the operator. These are shock troops that seek to overwhelm their opponents with a panoply of weapons and the enhanced strength granted to them by their suits. The three BEAST class skills are MWP (Mobile Weapons Platform), Plasmacasting, and Suittech.etcetera.All of the races also have a backstory, rituals, way of birth, life expentincies etcetera.IMO, the mud is pretty cool, I liked the tutorial, and I  definately like the ground more than the space. The cool thing is you don't have to touch space if you don't want to from what I've heard. The maximum members I've seen online is 10, but the help is coolconnection info, www.starmourn.com23edit, I also forgot to mention it is an rp mud.
