@1.618, fully agee with you. If people would check out things like the AWS SDK, you could have games with matchmaking. You could have games with particular servers with matching rules. AWS GameLift is an incredible platform on AWS that brings all of this to the table.

Hello Peoples. I red this topic and I agree 1000%. My first idea was a Minecraft clone for the blind. I won't call it a clone i rather call it a "Conversion". Anyway, we need more conversions because i look at my brother playing GTA5 online and i get angry because there is nothing like it for the blind. Another thing, us here in the  community only copy each other and only produce the same type of games. KILL! KILL! KILL! PICK UP ITEMS ON THE FLOOR! BLAH! BLAH! That's all we see. One of the most contrivercial audio game, Constant Battle was once a clone but they made it better than the game it was based on but 3 versions have been released but in my openion, version 2.92 was the best. Version 3 is more about paid items and fighting. Sorry, i'm going off course. My point is, Developers should take reference from sighted games and bring it to the blind. Really the first guy to really do that was probably, Jim Kitchen, Rest his soul. He even had a XXX game as well. I want to ask a question as I am here:Which would you rather play:City/nation builder?  Or  Life/truck sim?Regards

@1.618Agreed. The problem is that we just don't have the resources to make these larger scale clones/adaptations happen in our community alone. One of the best options would be to reach out to the teams behind the games we're interested in (or mainstream developers with knowledge of the game) with a solid idea. Sadly we all know how that story usually ends. Trying to communicate with more mainstream developers seems like the way to go if we want more releases period. (clones or not) Given the amount of developers in our community today, I think that's understandable.

First of all, i don't have a problem with cloning games, as long as you get permission from the original creator. I mean,look what the famous game Space Invaders has turned out to be. There are many variants of that game, yet the simple objective still lives on. However, I think that we should be cloning audio versions of games that sighted people already enjoy, and then somehow integrate that clone into the regular version of that game. The example i can think of is AudioQuake. Quake, the visual/mainstream FPS was quite known in the late 90's. Then, in 2003, a project was created to try and make Quake accessible to the blind. The project's aim was to create a coexistence of blind and sighted people playing the exact same game. Unfortunately, AudioQuake-like so many other good ideas-died out. Imagine if an audio version of Minecraft, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and others could have an audio counterpart. This would allow blind people to play with hundreds of millions of gamers. Because of the minuscule presence that the blind community has in the world, we should try not to isolate ourselves. I'm not against originality in game creation, but if we wish to clone existing games and tailor them to our specific purposes,, why not let the sighted world in on it? If we do isolate ourselves from the rest of the world, it creates an "us verses them" mentality, and in all things-audio games included-we will lose.

I'm still waiting for the day where we get an online fps with match making and things like that. not just run, collect a lot of items and then die because people were on 8 hours before you collecting shit since they had nothing better to do.

I also like this article too.My first encounter of the word clone, was way back when. My Dad was checking the net, and we found a little game, visual in nature but still quite fun, called Space Quarry. The description simply said, "a faithful asteroids clone". The sounds, graphics and such, were completely different. No stolen code or anything like that.This isn't an audiogame and I don't know if it's available anymore, but I'm just pointing it out because it's an example of a clone in the context of this article..

I know this isn't really the focus of the article/conversation, but there was a great point brought up that I really agreed with. The article says:"We have lots of games with good premises, but they either don’t get finished, or they get over developed and turn into a hot mess."The entire statement was true, but I really agree with the mention of over development. Continuously adding features and elements to a game isn't a bad thing, but there's definitely a point where it becomes overkill. It's alright to decide that a game has all the elements that it needs and just leave it at that. After a certain point, you can end up with a game that has a severe identity crisis. No one really knows what it's supposed to be anymore. IF the main objective of a game is to build and maintain a village, there isn't much of a point in expanding by adding spaceships and incorporating space travel/intergalactic PVP.
