Re: what's a good mud client?

Mush-Z is, in fact, MUSHclient with an enormous amount of scripts and other customizations. Its also worth noting that VIPMud does not officially support NVDA; indeed, I still cant get it working, so Im pretty much forced to use MUSHclient on Windows.

Re: what's a good mud client?

Mush-Z is built on top of mushclient, but it only works on Alter Aeon. If you try to use it on other muds, youll lose 90% of the features.

Re: what's a good mud client?

MushZ was created to provide an easy to set up out of the box experience. Its like how some accessibility companies sell computers with screen reader already installed as opposed to you needing to install it yourself.

Re: what's a good mud client?

Ah. So instead of having to configure your mud client for alter aeon they created a kind of stand alone client for that one game?I see now. Yeah I guess its a bit like those computers with accessibility, or even vinux which was a version of Linux specifically meant for accessibility

Re: what's a good mud client?

Vinux was a version of conventional Linux which was set up for a talking install and with access features turned on by default, it wasnt exactly like certain accessible computer systems which stood alone. For a lot of VI people, myself included, Alter was their first experience with muds. Its an excellent place to learn how to play a mud and thanks to Mush Z you dont even need to know how to set up a mud client or install a soundpack, though admittedly when I started mudding I was using GMUD without any kind of soundpack. How things have changed.

Hmm. I never really thought of Mush-Z and Vinux as similar, but now that you mention it, it really makes sense. The same could be said of Vipmud and Sonar GNU/Linux.

Re: what's a good mud client?

Is mushclient anything like mush-z? Im just asking this because they have similar names, so thought they might be. If so, then Ill be taking the mush-z route. Otherwise, Ill try both mushclient and the vipmud trial and see which I like.

Re: what's a good mud client?

Hello Severestormsteve. For windows mushclient and vipmud are your best choices. If youre using an iPhone MudRammer and PocketMud are great.I would say get mushclient since its free and easy to use. The link is here on the database just look it up. Once you get mushclient install it then you can play muds. You should also get mushreader which should be available on the mushclient website. This just helps mushclient work better with screen-readers. You can also get mush-z which is a version of mushclient that runs alter aeon spacifically. It also has a soundpack. To open a mud in mushclient press alt+f to open the file menu then select new world from the menu. You will have to put in the information of the mud you want to play such as alter aeon from alteraeon.com. Once youve done all of that press save and the game should open if it doesnt press alt+f and select open world.Hth.

Re: what's a good mud client?

MushClient being free is a decent way to get started with muds though scripting it is somewhat more complicated. VipMud has a 30 day trial and is much, much easier to set up things like triggers to play sounds so when youve got the basics figured out you might want to give it a try. Im not saying VipMud is for everyone who is experienced with muds, I am saying if you dont try it you dont know and the difference in ease of scripting between the two is tremendous.Oh and dont let people in muds tell you scripting is against the game rules, what is against the rules is botting and the like. Using scripts to play sounds and hide or reformat output from the mud can be a vital tool to help make muds easier for us to play and more enjoyable in general, it isnt cheating so long as the scripts dont send any commands to the mud itself.
