For your information. The name cndrvcups-lb is used in the README file. The
name is also used in Gentoo.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, I was a bit busy.

I now uploaded the package under the new name, so please merge
python-pyprof2calltree[1] into pyprof2calltree[2].

Thanks!

[aur-general] dzen2-* cleanup

2014-03-02 Thread Florian Bruhin
Hi,

there's a bit of a chaos with dzen2-* packages.

dzen2-gadgets-svn[1]:
Gadgets are also in the normal packages, upstream switched to git,
should be merged into dzen2-git[2].

dzen2-parallel[3]:
Old and weird pkgbuild, orphaned, and I'm not interested in
maintaining it. Maybe should be dropped or merged into
community/dzen2.

dzen2-xft-xpm-xinerama-svn[4] and dzen2-xft-xpm-xinerama-fixed-svn[5]:
Relying on outdated SVN source, should be merged into
dzen2-xft-xpm-xinerama-git[6].

dzen2-bskv-git[7]:
Just an updated dzen2-git package because the latter was really
outdated before I adopted it. Should be merged into dzen2-git[2].

The whole project will be redundant soon anyway since Microsoft are
planning to shutdown the servers soon [1] and I don't see anything on their
website [2] suggesting the package supports any other protocols? No release
for nearly 2 years as well.

The amsn2-git package is, itself, orphaned, and the last development
on the amsn2-git repo appears to be almost 3 years ago. Does it still
build?

Both the amsn2-git and amsn-svn PKGBUILDs are using horribly outdated
CVS templates.

Personally, as the situation currently stands, I'd nuke the lot of
them. If someone has some interest in maintaining the amsn2-git
package, then they should adopt, update, and prod upstream to see if
this project has any life in it (maybe they moved to a different
hoster?).

Cheers,

aMSN has been replaced by amsn2 (currently available in amsn2-git).
I suggest deleting all the amsn-* packages in [1] as most of them are
orphaned, incompatible with amsn2 and most don't even build.

Shouldn't that also provide 'lv2' instead of just conflicting?
Also as far as I can see at least the build system also works with
python3, are you sure lv2specgen still needs python2?

*Sigh* Let me rewrite this with my reading glasses :-):

I'd rather ask the other maintainer to rename his package. Renaming
yours in that incredibly cryptic and convoluted way is a disservice to
your present and potential users. The other maintainer may feel he is
entitled to have it his/her way because he/she arriived first, but
when you publish a public work as a service to others, your first duty
is to your users.

Clarity trumps brevity everytime. I am sometimes tempted to rename one
package I maintain (the ee editor), just for that one reason.

As an end luser and consumer, it is a lot easier for me to find
something called canon-driver-cups-lib-bin, if that is what you really
mean. The AUR web interface doesn's allow searching on description
texts last time I checked therefore using a descriptive package name
is the right thing to do by your users.

I rather ask the other maintainer to rename his package, not renaming
yours in that incredibly cryptic and convoluted way. He may feel he is
entitles having arrived first but when you do a publish a public work,
your first duty is to your users.
