Re: [Aus-soaring] Dick Johnson
This from the SSA website: Richard H. Johnson Richard H. Johnson of Dallas, Texas died in a glider crash near Midlothian, Texas today at approximately 12:30 central time. The soaring community has lost a true pioneer and a great friend. Our condolences go out to Alice, his wife, and the rest of Dick's family. Denise Layton - Dick has been my soaring hero since I read about his world distance record flight of 535 miles in the RJ5 in 1951. Even more impressive when I read about the modifications which turned the original 30:1 glider into a better than 40:1 glider. I was fortunate to meet and talk with him on a couple of occasions.
