I have a very ominous example of way point names!

On the way down the Red sea into Jedda you will find one way point which is
DEDLI
and the very very next one is OSAMA.

I have to say i was shocked to read that.

Re: [Aus-soaring] Something to make you laugh, Ozzie IFR waypoint fun, this is true!

2012-09-13 Thread Mike Cleaver
IFR waypoint names have been a good source of clever humour for a long
time: they have to be unique 5-letter names that are pronounceable. but
the air traffic service providers try to add to that by either having a
system, or naming them after people in the ATS system, or similar.

For instance the approach path to LAX (Los Angeles International) at one
time went EENEY MEENY MINEY MOWEY
Some are also used in met forecast areas, e.g KROWS in area 50 (South
Australia), CAMUS and FLIKI in Bass Strait, and LEYOX to the west of
Griffith: that used to be called OXLEY but there was a slight change to
the route and it had to be renamed as it had moved a short distance.
Best of all in my view was the one north of Port Augusta named GAFFA -
sadly no longer used.
