Ok, so it /can/ work on Linux+Firefox. Btw, the poor sound quality is
not a Linux thing. The mpeg really is like that. Probably to make it
more secure. But I think that reCAPTCHA went too far with the audio.

I just saw Daniel's note about the plugin not found error. I guess I
must have the required plugin, whatever it is.

I wonder if we can get a list of plugins that come with Ubuntu but not
 with Mandriva.

it depends on what software you have installed ... And which sources
you put in /etc/apt/sources.list ... ;)
BTW, I get an error message saying something, that it cannot find
/usr/X11/bin/vlc for some reason ... :( I am using Debian
SID/Experimental, Iceweasel 3.0.3-3, and am not using vlc but
kplayer here ... ;)

 From Wikipedia:
 quote
Plone is a free and open source content management system ...
 /quote

ACL is an acronym for ...

I hope, I understood it right (and have explained it good enough ...
;) ). If I misunderstood something or if I am completely wrong, I
hope someone else more knowledgeable will jump in and help me (as
 as well you ... ;) )

It gives me kind of clue ;) What I've learnt at least, is how to remove
 our porn-members.
Do you know whether their websites disappear also?

To be honest: I am not sure about, but I hope so ... ;) The only
thing I found was on
http://oooauthors.org/HelpSys?help_url=/Control_Panel/Products/OFSP/Help/ObjectManager_Contents.stx,
where the following is written:
quote
pruneMemberDataContents():

Compare the user IDs stored in the member data tool with the
list in the actual underlying acl_users and delete anything not in
acl_users
/quote

As this seems to be some kind of function (from the python language,
I think), it /could/ be, that it is implemented in Zope and/or
Plone. But I am not sure about ... :( I hope Marko and/or someone
else with a better knowledge and understanding of both progs can
tell us more ... ;) If I interpret it right, it just compares the
entries in member_data with the file acl_users and remove the
adequate user directory, if a user is removed there.

BTW: A quick search via web does not help ... :( Or I was using the
wrong keywords to find it ... :(

@Daniel: Then we could communicate in German on this ML ... ;)

[authors] Printed edition of Getting Started with OOo3 now published

2008-10-25 Thread Jean Hollis Weber
Friends of OpenDocument Inc has just published the printed edition of
Getting Started with OOo3, here:

http://www.lulu.com/content/4633456

In addition to the paperback book (US$17.95), a free download of the PDF
of the book is also available from that link. The interior pages are in
black white. It is formatted for approx. 6x9-inch pages (the size of
the printed book), which should print fine on A4 or US-letter paper if
someone wants to print it. If you are paying for your own ink/toner and
paper, buying a printed copy is probably cheaper than printing it yourself.

The official PDF of the Getting Started with OOo3 book, and PDFs of
the individual chapters, are on the Docs and OOoAuthors websites. They
are formatted for onscreen viewing with two facing pages, since we
believe that most people will read them onscreen, not print them. (They
are also in colour.) The official PDFs will be updated as needed, more
often than the printed book.

Over the next few days I'll be adding links from various places to the
printed book. Please feel free to publicise either or both versions of
this book, or the wiki version, anywhere that seems useful.
