I'm sorry, I miss-calculated the default wibox size. It seems to adapt
to font height? I thought font gets aligned on the wibox (or only if
height is not specified?).
For a font like profont that would be 16, but with the default font sans
8 it is 19. That does good to the layout icons but not so much to the
taglist and titlebar icons, they are a bit blurred. I would wote to
update them to reflect that (patch is attached). If KDE 4 did one thing
right it was switching to vectors :)

Beautiful calls the provided command. If they fails to change the wallpaper, we cannot do anything about that. FWIW I tried to reproduce (I'm nice) and it works perfectly. awsetbg uses Esetroot here to set the display, and then xsetroot works like a charm (so another call to awsetbg does anyway). Maybe your WPSETTER used by awsetbg is different than mine and cannot change a second time the wallpaper and/or disallow changes by xsetroot, I really don't know. Tablist widget integration
In my course to get tab usable in awesome I added a tablist widget. I
found how to make it working in the default wibox, displaying only the
tab (if any) of the focused windows.
I will let that option possible but what I really want is to make it
working with the titlebar.
For that I need a way to get the client of the titlebar we are
refreshing from the tablist_update function.
I added args.widget param to the titlebar.add code to specify a custom
widget to be added to the titlebar. It works.
I wonder how to get the titlebar code to specify the client it is
linked with to the tablist_update function?
The titlebar.update function have the information I need.

If they fails to change the wallpaper It does change the wallpaper but its overwritten by the default one. Maybe your WPSETTER used by awsetbg is different than mine and cannot change a second time the wallpaper and/or disallow changes by xsetroot, I really don't know. Once again, this has nothing to do with xsetroot, it was just a simplistic example. The fact is that the same WPSETTER (feh in my case) is started by awsetbg twice - first with the default background, and then with one in my custom theme but somehow the custom bg is set first (i can see it for a split sec) and the default one overwrites it. I suspect there is some form of race condition and perhaps you're not seeing it for whatever reason but maybe on other systems (like here) there would be problematic effects of spawning of two commands nearly in parallel - first on require(beautiful) and shortly after on beautiful.init(custom_theme) in rc.lua - whilst not knowing which one will finish first. [PATCH + RFC] awful.doc reactivation
Heyup. I finally got around to clean up my awful-doc branch a bit.

There's a couple of patches for awful.prompt but only the 'font' one
is related. Other ones are general improvments/fixes.
There's not much news in terms of functionality (it's been fairly
complete for months now) and now after a bunch of rebases with plenty
of edits and squashes the branch and code proposed should be cleanish,
maybe lacking a bit of comments which I will be happy to provide in
the near future.
I'm most interested in feedback regarding adding actual descriptions
to the default rc.lua and awful submodules, and their content. As you
can see I've added a bunch of descriptions inside awful.widget.* and
I'm wondering if taglist/tasklist should be handled the same way or
whether it should be as it is now - inside rc.lua.
Perhaps this could be a post-merge target, but one nice thing I
thought of would be automagic description retrieval for
buttons/keybindings based on the functions that they execute. So
instead of having to do
awful.button({ }, 4, awful.tag.viewnext, nil, Switch to next tag)
to set the description in rc.lua, the function trying to display docs
for that button would check description for awful.tag.viewnext. That
would make transition from non-described rc.lua to having a keybinding
cheatsheet much easier. There are a few problems with it however:
- descriptions taken from luadoc are a bit dirty (eg
awful.tag.viewnext it's View next tag. This is the same as
tag.viewidx(1) which obviously is a bit too long for a summary of
bindings. so luadoc for everything would need to be cleaned up a bit
which seems like a big task.
- grouping of bindings (try mod+f1 and k to see what i mean) is done
in rc.lua by setting a default group before each section of binding
definitions, eg:

, nil, View previous tag),
awful.key({ modkey, }, Right, awful.tag.viewnext

so if we do that keybinding grouping would have be done in a slightly

- there's a bunch of inline functions in rc.lua already so inline
descriptions for those are unavoidable.
