Re: [Ayatana] Unity Dock Icons behavior - Context Menu

2011-03-11 Thread Xavier Guillot
Thanks for the explanation. That would be perfect if QuickList entry for
new window could be reactivated for apps that support it, right.

In this connection, regarding the question for switching between
windows, is there a discussion / decision ?

When we want to switch from one of the current instance to another, we
have to click on the icon in Unity dock, and it shows us with an
animation a small view of all these windows.

I'd like that the current window is shown at the right side and the
other shown closest and near the Unity dock (in top left), it would be
easier and make less mouse move to change instance.

... Would it be possible to add a configuration option for current
window going to the (top) right when clicking to switch, and other(s) on
(top) left or bottom ?

Thanks in advance. Best regards,

Xavier

See the comment 3.
The idea is to add quicklist entries in the desktop files when we know
applications support multiple instances (which isn't always the case, like
devhelp which doesn't open a new one but focus the existing instance), or when
it doesn't do thing wrong (like gimp, opening a new full instance with toolbar
and such and not only a new document).

Some guidance about how to do that is available there:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity/LauncherAPI#Static Quicklist entries

We are still discussing on the xdg list about the OnlyShowIn values (Unity or
X-Unity) before launching a campaign of community help:)

Hello Xavier. I've leaned over the table and enquired about this, and
John has told me that the middle-click shortcut is supposed to be *in
addition* to the means of opening a new window via the right-click
QuickList.

Apparently it's a co-incidence that one temporarily disappeared
whilst the other was being introduced.

At the beginning, with mouse right click on an icon, there were 3
 lines :

 - Keep in launcher
 - Quit

and a third one to launch another window of the program (ie a second
terminal instance, or a second Nautilus window...)

No this possibility disappeared, it's available with middle click.

I agree with this, just suppose we are using touchpad (ie laptops,
notebooks, netbooks) and not mouse.
