Jesse,
I have a d'Oliveira Homen ou Carnero in my Lagoa family tree.  My gggrandfather
is Joao and his son is Jose.  Jose has a sister Jacintha de Jesus (my
ggrandmother) and their mother is Maria Eugenia.  Joao's father is Antonio Jose
Homen and his mother is Anna de Jesus Carnero.  That is all the information I
have on them.  Is any of this similar to what you might have?

WIth the new Rosario records I'm hoping to break through a brick wall I have on
my father's mother's side of the family.  Would be nice to find more cousins!

Hi group. With the new Rosario records online I was able to make some progress
but was hoping someone could help with two things.

In the first record, I have a father listed as "Joze d'Oliveira home". Am I
reading this wrong, or does this mean something else?

Then, in another, there is a "digo" but I'm not sure what the words after it
are and what the priest is correcting.

Finally, in the third, the record is very smudged and hard to read and I was
hoping some more sets of eyes could verify and help me figure out the names of
the paternal grandmother. The father SHOULD be Francisco, but I'm not quite
sure if it actually says that. I think the mother is Roza do Couto. Then I am
seeing Joao do Rego and Izabela da  ??? (the one in question), and Joze Borges
and Clara do Couto.

Thank you!

Thank you Margaret. For the "digo" record, the name was actually not cut
off. I made sure to keep the line and the following ones in tact. I am
reading "...Materno de Joao Munis natural digo da Car??tos Jose natural

have any idea how it would wind up in the record? I am not sure what the
situation of the priest is as he writes the record but I am confused as
to where the correction signified by the "digo" begins. I will be
looking up the mother's birth soon anyway, though, so I should soon have
an answer with or without this record.

Hi Nancy,

I see no need to test your uncle's Y-DNA as it should be the same as
your brothers. By testing your uncles Mt-DNA you will get your
grandmothers line DNA. This is more important especially if you have no
Aunts or daughters of your aunts.

You need to be a male to take the above DNA tests. Order here to get

The sale is for any kit ordered through Family Tree DNA, so if you are

yes, the sale price would apply to him too. If you need to know how to

I had Basalto on my honeymoon. I really enjoyed it. Does anyone know
where I can get it in the States (or Online, since I am not a close drive to
either Mass or Cali)? I am also a sucker for Vinho Verde, but there are
plenty of places I can get that.

As for Azorean table wines, there is one from Pico called Basalto that is a
very nice red. Otherwise, seek wines from the mainland (Douro, Alentejo,
Dao regions).
Summer is ideal for vinhos verdes. Some are produced rather cheaply and
over-carbonated (Gatao, Lagosta, and Mateus are in this category). Really nice
one, not expensive, served very cold is Casal Garcia. Probably the best
quality vinho verde is Palacio da Brejoeira. You'll pay a little more but it
is great quality.
Here in Nashville, it has taken us a while to educate various wine stores
to get these wines in but they are finally catching on and everyone is
happier.

Hi Cheri,

Before I place my order I want to be sure that I know what I'm doing. I've had
my MTDNA tested which gives my mothers female line.I've had my brothers
YDNA tested which gives my fathers male line.since my father is deceased
I've asked his brother, my 86 yr old uncle to take the test.if I order the
Y-DNA 37 with mtDNA, will I find out my paternal grandmothers female line DNA?

Thanks,

You need to be a male to take the above DNA tests. Order here to get the sale
price:
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=AzoresIslands

The sale is for any kit ordered through Family Tree DNA, so if you are
researching your Cunningham line and had someone to take the DNA test, yes, the
sale price would apply to him too. If you need to know how to find another
project, just go to www.ftdna.com and type your surname into the search field
on the right.

Sale ends Friday, June 25th at 11:59 pm CDT.

are full, and we have learned so much about reading and interpreting those
pesky church records! I came specifically to learn how to understand them,
but was so pleased to find other ways to get information. For us, the
Diario De Noticias was a key source to finding obits and social notices that
gave us clues about other siblings back in the Azores and birth dates.
Yoohoo!

It was great to meet everyone there, and I just know that many of you are
related to my husband, even though we haven't confirmed the connection yet!
Give us time!

Cheri and Rosemarie were like Energizer Bunnies, going and going and going.
What a wonderful program they put together! Our heartfelt gratitude to them.
They were tireless in their support of us, and we now feel like we are 'in
the loop'. I am ordering films today at my local FHC, to continue what we
started.
