Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] How many name changes can one family have

2011-09-17 Thread John Vasconcelos
*Hello there E,
In answer to your question (How many name changes can one family have? If
you mean surnames, It can add up and it may vary with the time in history
when it occurred. In my own family tree, The Vasconcelos surname goes back
(including me) 6 generations to my 4G grandfather Antonio Caetano de
Vasconcellos (born about 1740). His parents were Joao Pimentel Velho and
Anna Pimentel. I was unable to find any record of his parents so he was the
end of that line. Anna Pimentel's parents were Manoel Pimentel and Isabel de
Freitas. Manuoel Pimentel's parents were Domingos Nunes and Marrianna Fraga
both end of line. Isabel de Freitas' parents were Domingos Fernandez and
Catharina de Freitas, both end of line. So in that particular branch of my
family tree, surnames seemed to have changed every generation in the late
1600's and early 1700's.
Regards,
John Vasconcelos

beginning to think they didn't want to be
 found..enough already!

Thanks for the warning on skipping the bull-fighting video.

À propos of my earlier inquiry re Fajã dos Vimes/Ribeira Seca, do you
know whether there's a Hidden- (Crupto-)Jewish section of the
otherwise Catholic cemetery there? Unfortunately, I've lost touch
with the person who told me this several years ago, so I'm unable to
ask my source further questions. Obrigada, Katharine.

[AZORES-Genealogy]

2011-09-17 Thread Gail Elizares
Is anyone familiar with the website geneAll.net? I think I found my great
grandparents but I'm quite confused on the dates. Sometimes my Google
translator isn't translating.

The Portuguese Genealogy of Oahu told me my great great grandparents are
Jose de Souza and Maria Ignacio. On the website I did find a Jose de Souza
and a Maria Ignacia. It seems their son also Jose de Souza married Maria
Jose. They have a date 11-25-1811 and Alcobaca, Alpedriz. Next to father
Jose de Souza they have Mouraria + 1811. My great grandfather Caitano de
Souza was born around 1860, which I believe Jose Jr could be his brother.
Anyway can someone look it up and shed some light for me? The dates doesn't
seem to jive.

Gail

I never heard of that. I have seen burials of people that weren't catholic,
mentioned in the church records, only a few cases. I  never seen anything else
besides catholic cemeteries in S. Jorge (if they had that section I am not
aware) and I lived there 26 years and I been pretty much everywhere in the
