Which format is better to post my tree: GEDCOM 5.5 or GEDCOM for FTM 16?

John,

Funny, yes, I believe that happened in my family also.  Two brothers married
two sisters, then one of the sons married a first cousin (at least it was the
daughter of a different sister!)  Better stop before the family name gets a
reputation ;-)

helping me by suggesting for me to start with grandparents and work

2012-07-15 Thread Cheri Mello
Doreen D,

I don't know where you are posting your Gedcom, but anybody anywhere will
only be able to import Gedcom 5.5.

Some genealogy programs can read directly from others and import without
using the Gedcom format, but you'd have to check with the cousin you are
corresponding with.

Ria,

Yes, you start with yourself and work backwards.

Go to your local public library and browse their genealogy section and
check out a couple of how to books. I like Unpuzzling Your Past by
Emily Anne Croom, but there may be others that you prefer.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] GEDCOM FORMAT

2012-07-15 Thread Dora Smith

Gedcom 5.5, or whatever the latest version is, which is probably 5.5.

Don't do FTM 16, it may only be importable by that particular version of
Family Tree Maker!

[AZORES-Genealogy] Photography Studios in Acores

2012-07-15 Thread Diane Lavely
Hi all. I'm looking for suggestions. I have several very old family
photos which were taken in The Azores. I'm looking for more information
about the photos. Photographer's name, etc are as follows:

1.Photographia Artistica, Rua Esperanca - No. 19 - S. Miguel, Acores.
Comment printed on back also says conservam se as duche,. I think. Also
on the back there are angels, and what looks almost like a coat of arms in
green and gold.

2. Severini Joao D'Avellar, (Angra ao Heroism) 40 Rus De Santo Espirito.

3. Photographis Artistica de A.J. Raposo, Rus de Esperanca 19, S. Miguel,
Acores.

The only hint I see is S. Miguel - - which is huge for me, as I'm still
trying to determine which island(s) to research. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated!!

I also have many from photographers in Boston and Quincy, MA - - have
written to the MA Historical Society for assistance with these. Thanks.
