I think that her name is Maria Dias. I believe that the Rodrigues surname 
is a mistake made by the person who wrote the names of the spouses above 
the record and was not able to read correctly the abbreviation of her 
surname.
I have already seen this kind of mistake on the old marriage records for 
Ribeira Grande. The most common is the abbreviation Gls (Gonçalves) wrongly 
listed as Gomes.

Sandra, it doesn't sound like an Italian name. I looked it up in the book, Our 
Italian Surnames by Joseph G. Fucilla and there is nothing close. I also looked 
it up in Portuguese Paleography, nothing close either. Looked also in my 
Portuguese to English dictionary and nothing closer than baldao.
