If you were trying to pay for a document from the Azores or Portugal you
need to transfer the money to their bank account therefore you have to ask
them for the router and bank account number that you can transfer to all
you make a money order for the $0.30 euros and you mail it to them that's
my home by snail mail will cost you more cuz you have to pay the postage

OK, thanks very much. It's hard to draw many conclusions without seeing

[AZORES-Genealogy] Daniel Moniz DOB 1884

2016-04-01 Thread Theresa Entin
Hi All, I am look for the village of Daniel Moniz. I have his parent’s names
from SS Index Application, but I cannot find Daniel coming into this country.
I check 1900 Passports and he wasn’t there. It is such an odd name if anyone
has it and the village I would be very grateful. I was able to find his wife
Maria Isabella Cabral and do her ancestry. This is a DNA match to my uncle.

MANUEL1 MONIZ was born about 1864 in Sao Miguel, Azores. He married MARIA
JULIA PEREIRA.
She was born in Sao Miguel, Azores.
Manuel Moniz and Maria Julia Pereira had the following child:
2. i. DANIEL2 MONIZ was born on 18 Feb 1884 in Sao Miguel, Azores. He died in
Oct
1944 in Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts. He married MARIA ISABELLA CABRAL.
She was born in 1888 in S. Jose de Ponta Delgada Azores. She died in 1921 in
Somerset, Bristol, Massachusetts. He married MARION L MONIZ. She was born
about 1897 in Azores.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Natural d'uma escrava(o)

2016-04-01 Thread linda
I don't think one can make that assumption. The records I've seen for
slaves-- baptisms and marriages-- always include the owner's names. The
owner's name is a part of the slave's social and legal identity. It's
analogous to a woman in the records rarely being identified without mention
of her relationship to her father/parents or her husband.

E., can you provide a link for the record your friend is wondering about?
Who are the godparents for the child? There may be a clue to paternity
there.

John, Thank you for the succinct and cogent explanation of natural vs.
illegitimate. It's helped to clarify my thoughts on the topic.

Yes it does. Natural could either mean illegitimate or Maria, born to Anna

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Arganil Portugal - Marriage Record for Domingos Fernandes & Catherina Dias

2016-04-01 Thread Margaret Vicente

Domingos Fernandes son of Bartolomeu Salao? residing in the town of
Salaviza and of Isabel Fernandes of this town; with Catarina Dias daughter
of Domingos Alvares and his wife Maria dias of the Nogueira place.

Walt to me looks very close to Salao same name as the town which is not
unusual but it could be something else but that is what the letters seem to
indicate in comparison with the same word on the record below this one.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Natural d'uma escrava(o)

2016-04-01 Thread 'John Raposo' via Azores Genealogy
More or less. In Portugal there is a difference between filho(a) natural and
filho(a) ilegitimo(a). Filho natural means that the parent(s) was not married
but could be if they wanted to, i.e. neither was married to anybody else. Filho
illegitimo means that the child is illegitimate because the parent(s) was/were
not free to marry because one or the other was married to somebody else. I have
also seen the term "filho adulterino" in the case of a child born to a married
woman whose husband had been away from the village so that he could not
possibly be the biological father. In a small village there are no secrets.
