took her back into Portugal/Spain/France!

2016-05-14 Thread Cheri Mello
Hi Mike,
In Portuguese you will be looking for Antonio Carlos Pavao. His parents
would be Joao C. Pavao and Maria. Maria's parents would be Jose Viveiros
and Maria Torres. The ship bound for Hawaii left from the port of Ponta
Delgada on Sao Miguel island.

In "Passport Registrations, Portuguese Immigrants from Azores to Sandwich
Isles, 1879-1883" by Bob De Mello, lists the following on page 298

Pavao, Joao Carlos, age 51, son of Antonio Carlos and Maria Joaquina, from
Bretanha, with wife Maria Francisca, age 48, daughter of Jose Inacio Raposo
and Francisca Candida with children, Francisca, 23, Antonio, 20, Luis, 17,
Mariana, 14, Margarida, 11, Manuel, 9, all born in Bretanha, came on the
Bell Rock (sailed 3 Aug 1883-3 Sept 1883).

Others on this list will tell you how to search the Portuguese records
(doing a quick email check before I leave). You could also join us in Salt
Lake in September, where we will have 4 days of Portuguese genealogy!

[AZORES-Genealogy] looking for Piva, Pavao, Viveiros, Torres

2016-05-14 Thread Michael Brown
Hello!

I am looking for the family of my great great granfdfather, Anthony Carlos
Piva (Pavao). He was born in the Azores, but lived in Hawaii when he was
married. As far back as I have is his parents John C. and Mary Pavao from
Sao Miguel and his wife's parents Joseph Viveiros and Mary Torres. (see
attachment). I am studying Portuguese hopefully to help open the doors to
finding this family.

Thank you,

Michael Brown

I think that there is another Sao Jorge genealogy that they've taken of the
site. The index looked different in the back, not like the one I told you
about. Darn, I wish I knew the name of it!

That's great, Nancy Jean! I also scoured Family Search.org trying to find which
Sao Jorge film had the other genealogy and it's #1330512, item #6. I can't
remember much about it, it's been years since I've looked but you may find

It's the one on the right by Mateus Machado Fagundes de Azevedo. There is an
index in the back, so check there for the name. Let me know if you need any

I'm really not sure, Nancy Jean, but that was my first thought when I first
looked at it. There is an Alferes by that name but can't remember the wife's
name. Maybe I saw it in the unpublished manuscript for Sao Jorge?
